Then he suggested a pancake idea of bacon and maple or golden syrup.

Anyone ever tried that? He said that sweet and savory together was nice... but it sounds freakish...

I love that combo... for breakfast, in a diner, in the States! With thick American pancakes and loads of butter too.

For Shrove Tuesday in Britain, though, it must be thin, crepe-style pancakes, with lemon and sugar. Or Nutella! Yum! ETA: or sugar and Cointreau... Ah, the combinations are endless!

    Hello all.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me, in the middle of making pancakes with the kids but they are all sticking and then falling apart when you try to turn them. I've tried different pans, oil, butter, nothing, different heats but they all stick! Anyone know the answer please cos my girls are saying I should have just bought some!!! :o:confused:

Hello thanks for replying. I used the sure fire works every time batter from on here, 1/2 cup each of flour, milk and eggs.

I do have more luckily. :D

One of your kids probably slipped some superglue into the mix. ;)

    OK... hmmm...

Non stick pan... a small nob of butter... medium heat until it melts and just starts to bubble...

Turn the heat down a bit...

    Add pancake batter.

    They should cook gently.

The FIRST one out, and perhaps even the second is likely to stick, but if you keep going...

..and just give a tiny wipe around the pan with a well folded sheet of kitchen towel with a bit of butter on it between pancakes...

  • - that should be working then - it's not my method - but I know many many people swear by it...

I see squeaky has given you a method - do you think its your method or the batter at fault? Is the batter the thickness of cream?

Is the heat too high or has your pan not warmed up ...my first pancake never works.

Some TV chef said last night to put a tiny pinch of salt in, appearantly makes it "stronger".
Personal experience: batter needs to be well beaten/whisked, just before use.

PS: If still difficulties, make smaller pancakes, don't try and cover whole pan. Will be easier to turn and keep kids happy for now.

Oh how great are you lot! :D

I've no doubt its my method lol, the batter is most definitely like cream and always produces perfect yorkshires ( maybe I should stick to those!!).

So lower heat, small amount of butter, tiny pinch of salt...... I shall report back shortly!!!

Don't even try to move the pancake until bubbles start to appear on the top. I think either the batter is too thick (too much in the pan), or you're disturbing it too soon.
