Just out of interest did you know that you can machine wash and dry feather eiderdowns? You have to transfer from washer to drier quickly so as not to get brown stains from the feathers. Aslong as there are no tears for the feathers to escape out of.It smells horrible though while they are in the drier! I do it with cheap charity shop eiderdowns. They always look so much better

Well, funny you should say that, until recently I thought that feather and down could not be washed. Then, when I was looking to buy a new duvet, I was wondering whether to buy synthetic, but then it was pointed out to me that geese and ducks practically live on water and no harm comes to their down, so....... a natural filled duvet could be washed and also with care, would outlast a synthetic one. I plumped for a pure goose down duvet from John Lewis, it is light in weight and as warm as toast, the best duvet I have ever had and they reckon it should last me 30 years. I always use a top sheet folded over the duvet cover to stop any nasty stains.:o So I don't expect to be washing it for a while.

Sorry, got a bit off topic there!

Would probably be easier to paint it , if that would go with your decor.
Do you have a photo? Might be easier to advise if we have a pic of it
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

I've been having such fun reading this thread - even though I'm at work :D It's been a terribly dull day with very little to do so I've made my way as far as page 28 already!

You're all so very talented. I'm deeply jealous. You should see some of my attempts at crafts - positively hopeless! But I keep trying anyway.

Sadly I live in a fully furnished, rented flat so there's virtually no scope whatsoever to do anything really exciting. And *if* I end up with my boyfriend long-term I'll be living in Army quarters for the next 15-20 years <sighs deeply>. I can't imagine a time when I'll ever have a home that's really "me".

Well if I remember rightly whilst I grew up in army quarters you have the perfect backdrop as all the walls are magnolia :)

I can see their point but it would still be nice to find out where you are all from in one thread :( but hey rules are rules.

Went back to work today after 9 wonderful lazy days off and I am already planning my next flea market trip for my rest days!

Tis on Thursday in the local Town hall! I have not been for a while so hoping to find some bargains :)

I loathed walking around in the rain, but at least my job means I am continuously in the Town Centre so I can window shop, although that is lethal sometimes especially when Laura Ashley or Angels Fly South change their window displays!

My house (well flat) is an army quarter EP, and you can do a lot (I haven't this time, purely because of the short time we have ended up being here, but I have in the past on longer postings).

Nothing structural of course, but you can put up curtain poles etc, paint and paper - but you have to return it to the original condition before you leave - or else be billed for it.

It is possible to make it really nice, it just depends on how much money and time you are prepared to put in.

It's good training on how to adapt and ovecome! you learn how to make the bits you don't like so much less obvious, and how to live with them.
