It's alot more eclectic that shabby chic.I let hubby have a bigger say as it's his room more than most.So there are lots of modern touches like a glass coffee table and modern lamp.I did manage to squeeze a chandelier in there and 3 lovely old edwardian armchairs that I had recovered.I will try and get a photo but it's a hard room to photograph.
Thank you, well, looking forward to when it is ready. I think it looks really good as it is and some modern and vintage do go well together.0 -
I'm 51 [52 later this year] and have 3 grown up children, 3 grown up step children and 3 grandchildren. I live in Ipswich in Suffolk where I teach in a local high school. I have always like shabby chic.....my first efforts from necessity. Didn't own a 'new' piece of furniture until I was about 44. Throughout the years of bringing up children, wooden furniture was sanded and painted, and soft furnishings were recovered in order to give them new lifeWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

I'm 56, 4 children, 2 stepsons, 2 grandchildren.
My house is square & boxy & is shabby rather than chic. I actually like the fact that my house is boxy, after spending 15 years looking after a huge 6 bed, 3 recp, 2 study bungalow, quarter of an acre garden, 4 kids, own business, it is a relief to have a small place to look after.

and then paint the tiles cream to match the panneling.. add lots of green and pink shabby chic items.. like rose pattern jugs, lots of glass bottle with sparkly tops etc
Thanks. I like your ideas. Only problem is that the tiles rather dominate in the room. Has anyone painted tiles before?
There is already tongue and groove at the side of the bath and I have been intending to paint it white or cream.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Photos of the bathroom are hereWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -

Well, I suppose we might have got carried away with the introductions at the risk of not seeing shabby chic pictures and finding tips, so fair enough really. Even though it is nice to know who everyone is.0

I am not really shabby chic, I just think you get quality with some vintage/second hand things, that, if you had to buy the same thing new, it would be expensive.
This is a great site and I love seeing people's homes.0 -
