I saw that too and Maypole.... they showed a dated old china cabinet which sounds like the one in your garage which they lined the inside back wall of with wallpaper and painted white and it looked lovely. ;)

I'm not sure about using plastic cote if you're after a really matt effect.

They do satins and matt colours so not just gloss.

Hello fellow Geordie! I was beginning to think everyone was from Devon on here. Where abouts are you from? We're in G/Head.
Know what you mean about ebay, all the fab items are miles away, the local pick up things tend to be just tat.:rotfl: Says something for us.....:rotfl:

Nudging retirement age. My 2 children have grown up and left home - both into cooking. We are just putting our house onto the market and we've spent the last couple of months working on it. I'm really pleased with the result. We hope to retire to the coast. I doubt it we could afford a house with your sort of view, a sea view in sussex is verrry expensive. Even a glimpse of the sea costs!

Lucky you :T I must admit it can be quite grim there during the winter - but amazing in the summer.
I'm in Torrington and my living room/kids bedroom has a lovely view down over the commons towards Rosemoor Gardens....not quite as nice as a sea view mind :p

    Rosemoor gardens sounds lovely.

It is! (linky). It's in the distance (about a mile away) so all we can really see from our house is the edge of the car park :p and the trees (but they look lovely in summer and autumn with all the different colours).
:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j

    I love this thread!
...but haven't had time to read thru the 46 pages!
Some garden centres have got some good decoration bits that are in the shabby chic style

Just been looking at your website. You mention you were doing your sitting room before christmas, did you get it done and are you going to post your pictures of it in your website. Would love to see it. :j
The sitting room is still work in progress! We had a series of mishaps and are still waiting for the decorator to be able to come back. His wife is ill and we don't want to stress him anymore.
It's alot more eclectic that shabby chic.I let hubby have a bigger say as it's his room more than most.So there are lots of modern touches like a glass coffee table and modern lamp.I did manage to squeeze a chandelier in there and 3 lovely old edwardian armchairs that I had recovered.I will try and get a photo but it's a hard room to photograph.

I'm not sure that I'm really a shabby chicer but alot of you seem to like my style.Thank you! I do love re-using vintage things in a new way though. My first house was very shabby chic.We got given heaps of mismatching furniture and I painted it all to make it go together.
I am 37 ,married with 4 girls and live near Manchester.
