  • Thinking of lovely homes has anyone been watching the 'Jamie @ home' series..the rooms they are are gorgeous wouldn't you love to have a look round the rest of the house...and I love those big green cast iron pots he uses now that's something I would be willing to throw money away on...

My kids love that programme, I do too but I can't help wincing everytime he sticks his hand in that outdoor oven....it's so hot!

Rachelle, I just looked at you bunting and beautiful dresser. Wow. :T

  • The inside of the house could look like a tip for all I would care as I'd be glued to the view all day. That is stunning.

What about a non fussy but pretty blind just kept rolled up all the time.

It is a fab view which is why we took down the heavy, dark blinds that were there before. :p I think I need to go on a pretty fabric hunt. There used to be a Laura Ashley Second's/remnants shop in Barnstaple....I'll have to have an internet quest but there's nothing like seeing and feeling cloth yourself is there?

Nomoney, it's awful isn't it.:rotfl: I even caught myself perusing RightMove.com yesterday to lust over cottages and vintage-style houses.

Anyway, I am determined to make my boxy house as lovely and loved-looking as these gorgeous, inspirational homes. I really appreciated to advice on painting my coffee table legs and I'm going to do that and two side tables for my bedroom this week! Exciting but nerve wracking.

Thank you to whoever posted the painting instructions up the thread - perfect timing for me. :)

Now, if you had my kitchen window, what would you do? I don't want to hide the view, I don't need to close curtains or shutters but it just looks so....boxy.:rotfl: Can you see a theme here! Maybe I should buy some bunting........

What a lovely view you have from that window! :T

I do the same about Rightmove, i was even considering selling up and moving to rented so i cud have the money from the sale to do my whole house shabby chic! :rotfl: I was originally moving to try get garden for my dd poor thing but since i found this thread i think now a big kitchen is top priority!:rotfl:

What an awesome view! Is it looking out over Northam Burrows?

Could you just make a drape that goes across the top of the window?

I would leave any window treatment very simple.Maybe just a pelmet or some light simple curtains pulled to the sides.Something just to soften the edges of the walls.Even bunting would be nice.It depends how much you like vintagey things as you can work wonders with a few old pinnies or doilies!

I think shutters would look fantastic you wouldn't lose any of the view and could close them at night to keep the cold at bay. I reckon you could make some with a simple frame, a bit of tongue/groove, couple of hinges & a piece of wood either side to hang them on..failing that if your not brave enough have you a local carpenter but they would run you up some simple ones for the price of some floor length curtains....splash of paint fabulous just be careful though before you know it you'll be painting everything.....it gets quite addictive :rotfl: :rotfl:
    simplicity is key

  • Fantastic! I knew you all would help. :T

I loved those curtains with the birds on the top.....I think that I may have had a bit of a brainwave......I could make some big bunting, maybe with each triangle measuring about 8 inches in drop and applique some seagulls on them!!!!!! I could think of a way to fasten them so that they don't droop but hang flat like a pelmet!!!!!

Gosh, first homemade parsnip curry soup for lunch and now these wonderful ideas....there really isn't anything like the first day back for the kids after halfterm and a day off work.:rotfl:

And yes, Kisto, Northam Burrows below us....beautiful on a nice day - scary on a windy one.
