Bit of a 'oldie'......well, 64..............at that stage when the mind is still active though the body............not so much...................lol

Always loved decorating though can't do so much now (ouch ! my back........ )..........but like messing about with things round the house........painting little bits and pieces, making something for nothing type thing.
Not a very 'floral' person............my shabby chic is a bit more on the rustic side with maybe a stencil here and there.
Two adult boys.............one is father of 15 year old twins, boy and girl, plus baby..........and I foster teenagers and have two boys at the moment.

Nomoney, it's awful isn't it.:rotfl: I even caught myself perusing RightMove.com yesterday to lust over cottages and vintage-style houses.

Anyway, I am determined to make my boxy house as lovely and loved-looking as these gorgeous, inspirational homes. I really appreciated to advice on painting my coffee table legs and I'm going to do that and two side tables for my bedroom this week! Exciting but nerve wracking.

Thank you to whoever posted the painting instructions up the thread - perfect timing for me. :)

Now, if you had my kitchen window, what would you do? I don't want to hide the view, I don't need to close curtains or shutters but it just looks so....boxy.:rotfl: Can you see a theme here! Maybe I should buy some bunting........

How about painting a picture frame around your window? Either a even amount all the way around and the inner bit above the windowsill, or a curvey pattern on the wall.
Or a window pole with muslin (plain or patterned) wrapped around it and hanging off the ends.
  • hi everyone
I am 36 and have two rascal boys...we live here and the view of the waterfall at night is the one from my bedroom window...it is wonderful and very hard work at the same time...very rural, have to travel everywhere, lots of delicious linda snells....troublesome neighbours and alot of narrow minded yorkshire farmers (a bit of a sweeping statment I know but the truth)but when you wake up with the gush of water it isn't sooo bad, kids can wake to school everyday, play out make dens and have lashings & lashings of ginger beer....

Sounds very Enid Blyton! Think my girls would love it. They love making dens and having picnics in the garden.
The lady who wrote 'The Gentle Art Of Domesticity' ,Jane from Yarnstorm blog, is writing a cook book with all the recipe from Enid Blyton stories. It sounds delicious I will definitely be buying it.You can read about it here http://yarnstorm.blogs.com/knitblog/2007/11/cherry-cake-and.html

I'm in Torrington and my living room/kids bedroom has a lovely view down over the commons towards Rosemoor Gardens....not quite as nice as a sea view mind :p

I went on a school trip with my young'un to Rosemoor a few years ago. They did some lovely oldstyle Christmas Craft there and the gardens were fab even in the midwinter. I noticed a half price voucher on the journal this week so maybe another visit is in order.

I'm a creaky 38 years old with two lovely boys and a stoical husband.

Thanks for all the lovely comments on the view....really feel that I can't take the credit for it....:rotfl:

Just caught up on the last dozen pages of this thread. Love the buttercup and roses link add to favs. Didn't manage to read all her blog did anyone read what she thought of the country book she was going to read, tried to look for her review but couldn't find it. Haribo i am in love with your kitchen, don't change a thing its fab. You have helped me choose my new kitchen, can't afford the in frame style though, will have to settle for ordinary shaker style. I have got a double range cooker though and am having a false chimney built, DS and DSIL are joiners ;) . Love the pine dresser that was painted, desperately wanted a dresser but DH said it wouldn't leave enough work surface  so managed persuade him that a dresser top would look great on the wall, wanted a plate rack but he says its not hygenic with 4 cats. Don't agree but will have to wait and see. Love this thread and this forum. Thankyou all. Yes i will post before and after pics but i think its going to be a long job.:rotfl:

It is! (linky). It's in the distance (about a mile away) so all we can really see from our house is the edge of the car park :p and the trees (but they look lovely in summer and autumn with all the different colours).

Oh it does look really lovely.
  • i am going to do before and after pics...looks as though things are going to be started on the weekend now.....

but i now have my paint my brushes and my little roller....paint for the cupboard doors..... paint for the walls...( from focus used free vouchers) so all i need to get now is a cream stainwood type paint for the back door and the skirting boards....

there is a bootsale on wednesday morning.... so before i go and drop some stuff off for work i might pop in to have a nose....

Out of interest how old are you shabby chic'ers and where you from?
Im 26, married, have 2 children and live in Tyne and Wear.

I live in North Northumberland on the North East coast. I am married, 2 grown up children. My age, well, my real age will be 56 next month, BUT my mental age is still in my 30s. I am not really shabby chic, I just think you get quality with some vintage/second hand things, that, if you had to buy the same thing new, it would be expensive.

This is a great site and I love seeing people's homes.
