Well what a lovely day I have had
Firstly we got up at the crack of dawn to go carbooting
I came away with these fantastic finds!
The bathroom cabinet complete with key is extremely shabby chic with no effort, it is painted in a beautiful seafoam green just the colour Rachel Ashwell uses in her homeI paid £5 for it.
Then a lovely large old porcelain jelly/blamange mold that I paid £1.50 for, I have started a little collection of these for my kitchen in whites only though.
The mirror which is beautiful too was £2 complete with hanging hook!
Then I could not resist this! It is a wartime baby milk ration tin, a little rusty but charming!
We then decided to drive to Totnes to meet a few friends for coffee, if you have never been to Totnes make the effort if you are near or on holiday! I counted 7 (yes 7) shabby chic shops full to the brim of Cath Kidston, Green Gate and more painted furniture that you could shake a F&B paintbrush at!! It is a beautiful quaint town with 4 (normal) high street shops, the rest are all individual boutiques and the place just sings Camden Town in the countryIn fact we are now looking closely at properties there
Most shops were shut today though so our friend recommended Dartington Cider Press which is full of Art and Craft outlets, pottery, kitchen stuff and shabby chic shops!
I bought these beautiful items for my bathroom which is French Country themed, the pots are all Enamel and the two bigger ones have lovely handles,
I could not believe it when there were two hidden small pots in Seafoam Green :T the very same colour as my bargain carboot find! Oooh I got some handmade soapsto thrown in...........grand total for this haul £30!
So all day I spent £40 on some lovely bargains.0 -
Wow! Triage you did well! I love the little cabinet and the mirror! i can't wait for the carbooting season to begin in this part of the world. In the meantime I have been wandering around the house rearranging and re purposing stuff! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Great finds there Triage!
After reading the Buttercup and Roses blog I went to bed last night with my head full of ideas for painting all my existing wood furniture. So far there are 4 old dark wood chairs to paint and recover seats, old dark wood plant stand to paint, newish pine mirror and bathroom cabinet to paint. Hardest bit is deciding whether to paint in white or cream?
I also scoured the local paper for details of forthcoming auctions. I haven't been to one of those for years and love the thrill of bidding. (I usually try and stand next to a dealer and earwig what they are saying, lol).
Right, anyone got a spare paintbrush? :rotfl:Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.0 -
Well done Triage....you have done extremely well today....what bargains. We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

I'm a bit nervous of painting furniture are there any sites that show you how its done and get a decent finish? Ta”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

I notice that Shabby Chic seems to cover those who have LOADS of clutter (sorry that seems very rude, I mean ornaments, furniture, etc etc)
 Well I certainly hate clutter, but then I hate the look of a house that has a clinical appearance with no character too.
The way I look at shabby chic is a few carefully chosen pieces that I like to display, some people have a dresser that holds lots of pretty china and pottery etc alongside minimalist rooms which works well too, I have a bookcase full of cook books and shabby chic themed books :rotfl: .
I think Shabby Chic is definately not Chintzy or Country style which involves lots of heavy colours and quite a bit of clutter.0 -
Here are the pictures, sorry my phtography skills are not that great lol!
the cusions are one side stripes one side polka and the bed cover which i havent undone yet is the same.
