  • I prefer the more modern, streamlined look too. My house is a 1960's boxy bungalow and keeping the interior relatively clutter-free suits it. If I had a cottage though, I think little corners with bits would look gorgeous! I think the only reasonable solution is to buy a separate house just for me.:rotfl:

This is the room that I will be attacking next. It is a sunroom that links my living room and kitchen-diner so it doesn't get used much in winter. Previously, it has been a bit of a dumping ground but I'm keen to make it so nice that I never dump stuff there again. It's so bare though that I don't really know where to start. It's all darkwood doors and tatty lighting.

Any suggestions welcome. I have a budget of about 50p.:p

  • Hi all
So many lovely houses & so many blogs, I'm going to take early retirement, just so I can read them all.
I'm with Mary, my house just seems to look shabby & not chic, but I have added some pics to my blog.
We were given a cream sofa by hubby's brother as they didn't realise that it would be hard to keep clean with 3 kids in the house!

  • towelladder.jpgHi, I love this thread!
I thought you might like to see my bathroom that was decorated on a shoestring. The roll top bath was purchased from a discount bathroom store during the sale and they accepted 10% off the sale price for a cash payment. The wallpaper was bought via ebay at about £3.00 a roll. Curtain fabric bought a few years ago as an end of roll bargain. The towel rail and accessories are from my shop (so declaring an interest here folks!). Cream and white paint, bought in bulk as we were decorating several rooms at the time (saved us loads, try your local builders merchants). The radiator cover, I made from some offcuts of mdf from another project and some expanding garden trellis from our local ironmonger shop, which I painted with white gloss. It's now my favourite room in the house!

  • Hi Mary43, we used to stock this ladder in our shop, but no longer stock this exact one. I don't know if we are allowed to point people in the direction of our own shops on this forum, if we are let me know and I'll post a link to the ones we have in stock now.

Love the photos peeps! some great ideas :T

I was interested to see the radiator screen Liz, looks lovely and probably cost very little. I'd like a small folding screen to cover up my hi-tech corner, pc desk, printer etc. and I've been thinking of using garden trellis with side posts, all painted white. I don't want it to be much above desk height really, main purpose is to cover the cables and the muddles on my desk! Another option is some lightweight mdf panels hinged together which I could paint/decoupage. Advantage of the trellis is it would allow air flow to the pc tower, its on nearly all day so it gets warm!

any and all suggestions welcomed!! :D
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

  • Hi Rosieben,
what about using an old three-fold style clothes horse (not the expanding ones) and draped pretty fabric over it, that way it would hide the chaos of the tech corner and you could change the fabric with the seasons!
