Has anyone painted their house using the Farrow and Ball matt emulsion?

How does it compare to other matt paints?

I'm used to living with matt paint (which I love, the finish of it) so I know how it can be and just wondered how it compared for durability, ease of marking etc with other brands?

Hi Pipkin yes we have Farow & Ball Pale Powder on our kitchen/diner walls and I absolutely love it . It has depth and yet subtlety at the same time. Looks different in different light too. Highly recommend it. Not sure how it compares for durability etc.

    Thanks Elliidee :D

Did it work out a lot more expensive to use than say Dulux or something? Does it cover well? need several coats?

Pipkin I will have to ask OH :o . My excuse is that I have asthma/allergies so keep out of the way when decorating. Of course I choose everything and project manage ;) . He is actually painting in bathroom at the mo so will ask him when he surfaces !

I sent away for a couple of samples of Farrow and Ball matt emulsion paint a few years ago and I remember it being a lovely paint. I had patches of paint all over my walls deciding which colour I liked better. It did seem to be of good quality, however my husband was horrified  as it was more expensive than Dulux, so we ended up with Dulux.

I once used Sanderson paint and whether I just got a bad batch I don't know, but it was very watery and not easy to apply.

A friend of a friend uses F & B all over her house and swears by it and if I had my way, that is what I would use.

I went into Dunelm this afternoon and they have some beautiful spotted pvc coated cloth, in lots of lovely pastel sugared almondy retro shades. There is a lovely blue and a soft green, a soft pink and I bought the cream with coffee coloured spots! It's 7.99 a metre and is about 52 inches wide. I just bought a metre and half, and turned it into a circular cloth for my kitchen table.

I have some bits and pieces left and I may either make them into some bunting for the garden come summertime, or make some scalloped shelf edging. I may just cover some canisters with a strip of it, to match them up with the cloth.

My kitchen is modern wood slab doors, and quite streamlined, but the fabric looks lovely and not at all out of place!
:hello:  please play nicely children !

I also went to Dunelm and got a lovely enamel colander for 3.99, some large cushions pads and a very pretty cream pot to hold my cotton wool pads in. Looking around there were loads of items suitable for the shabby chic look...white wicker, spotted mugs, checked items , placemats and mugs that looked very Cath Kidston looking. Definitely worth a visit if you are nearby

  • Hi, we have F&B estate emulsion (matt) on the walls in our hall (ointment pink), I painted the hall about 8 years ago and it was easy to use, not smelly during application, has a lovely almost velvety finish, I am still really pleased with it. Coverage was better than most of the other paints that I have used. After 8 years, it's still looking great and will probably be good for another 8 years!
    I hope this is useful.

Oh No!! Wish you hadn't told me that!! I only get to go a couple of times a year currently so this is good news.... I also only discovered the other day that ikea delivered to my address - although some of the bits I want 'not available for home delivery' so will have to drive the 2+ hours to have a look anyway!!!

I made pretty in my youngest 2boys room today - I had bought some of those cardboard suitcase things ages ago
like these...only more blue and manly!!!

so I arranged with some of their nicer books and bears.
Also got these last time in ikea....
