Cross stitch magazines cost approx £3-4 each. I usually buy The World of Cross Stitch and CrossStitcher, but, to be honest I wouldn't buy them when you can get instructional books for free at the library. Wait a bit till you get the hang of it first.

Good idea to ask at the mums group.

Hi Mumzy, I'm not a cross-stitcher, but I put a knot in each end---as in I don't tie them together---cuz I've found it makes it easier to sort out any little tangles that always appear;) I wish I had the oomph to do more stuff, but I really need to finish the umpteen 'works in progress' that I have already.....plus the offspring will skin me alive if I bring more things into the house:eek:

I've been thinking about you're tray too Mary----what about a really pretty wrapping paper or birthday card or something, to use for decoupage [sp!]? Might even find something on t'net to print off.....

Did I see Viv was inviting us all round for a meal to help christen the new cooker:whistle: I'll bring the tea bags:D & swap you for your industrious hubby.....You should both be very proud of your accomplishments; the kitchen looks lovely already.

There are 6 strands in each skein, you need to seperate them into 3 strands (same colour) and knot the bottom of the 3 strands together. I hope you are doing the easiest first ;) When you do the little mouse x stitch that is 2 strands seperated from the 6 strands.
    Hope that helps.

BMF - I did initially think of doing that but then thought I'd paint something instead and thats reallywhat I want to do now, particularly as now I've had my last appointment with my counsellor I feel I want to do something theraputic that I haven't done for a long time. I love paintint and I might even have a go at doing the flowers by hand and forget the stencils. Practise first so I get back into the swing of it. I think it'll do me good to do that.
I'm already in the process of sticking images on various boxes so a bit of painting will be a nice change.

Oh well done:j Libaries are wonderful places, some even have a childrens reading hour. I have learnt so much from the wide selection available from there. I cant tell you how to upload I'm afraid, I'm still learning myself:rolleyes:

Here is a photo of my d.i.law's cross stitch picture that she did for me. (this when she didnt have much English and I dont have any Spanish, but with many gestures we got there!!)I was really touched that she sent it too me.http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm122/honrel/IMG_0685.jpg

Well done mumzy at taking that first step. You sound like you're already getting addicted! It doesn't take much once the picture starts appearing. Can't wait to see a pic of how it's going.

I know I've mentioned about using water colours and emulsion before but Iwas having a play with my water colours this morning and wondered whether I could use them to paint flowers onto my dads tray directly onto the paint there thats now dry.
When I asked before I was on about mixing water colours and emulsion when wet
    Anyone know ?
