Can anyone remember who had the sofa with the lovely rosy patchwork cover? I have a very boring blue armchair that I would love to brighten by doing something similar.

I think rachelblondell had a patchwork sofa cover that she regularly added new bits to, it was in the early part of the thread but no idea where exactly!
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
  • That's the one! Can anyone help me to find a photograph of it?

Ooh, no I don't like it at all.

Is it just me who thinks their prices are absolutely ridiculous? I mean I know that it's nice quality but HOW can they justify those prices?

I don't like it either. Someone has gone mad there IMO. But then again I only like the 'slightly' distressed look - as if the item has had years of love and natural wear - not the 'I've got a new belt sander look'.:o

Laura Ashley items are good quality and probably value for money, I just can't afford to buy new. Well I can afford to buy new but I also like eating and paying bills so would rather buy secondhand and have fun shabbying it up. (or trying to)

I do find her site insprational though and its bedroom section has given me great ideas for a new bedroom I'm planning.;)

Oh dear! I picked up a 'project' off freecycle yesterday, it's a bow fronted cabinet in need of some tlc. Only now I've realised that I have absolutely nowhere to put it! Don't know if I'm allowed to do this so mods feel free to edit, but are there any shabby-chicers within travelling distance of chester who would like it? If not I will probably have to pop it back on freecycle. Hope I'm not breaking any MSE rules here! :o.

    Anyone interested PM me.

To the person talking about varnishing their dresser (can't remember who it was) - I painted my kitchen cupboards with Dulux satin wood (about 4 years ago now) and left it at that and they've been fine.

Hi that would be me:D. I think satinwood is an oil based paint isn't it? Mine is water based eggshell and I thought it might not be as hardwearing? Thanks though:D

Anyone think this is a bit overshabbied?

Sorry you have to click in the text and go to dining2

It's a little bit too much for me, (although the furniture is exactly what I've imagined Shabby Chic to be) but I think that it looks worse than it is because the walls and floor are so pristine that the shabbied furniture looks fake and out of place; that sort of furniture should have a stone or worn wood floor with faded rugs, possibly hand made rag rugs, faded curtains and scruffy paint walls - lime wash effect at the very least.
I think that if you're going to go OTT then you have to really put your heart into it and go all the way. It still won't be to everyone's taste, but it won't jar as unpleasantly as that photogaph.
  • Cat64 you have mail. I am not too far from Chester, if no one else wants it I would love it please.
