I went to the charity shops today, picked up a wooden tray which will be my first paint project, noticed some lovely furniture as I was wondering round but I'm hoping to move this year so need to wait before I buy furniture. There was one of those nest of tables with glass on top for £7.50 and a cute little dressing table stool (with the same kind of kick out legs) for a fiver and I resisted both!
I also picked up a fantastic mirror from an Ebay win so that will be project 2
Regarding the tray, I was thinking that I would like to add a nice paper or something to the cental part and paint the rest but can I do this and if so how? I love this thread I have always been a fan of this style ,my whole house consists of charity shop bargains and auctions ,I am decorating my bedroom at the moment and hubby is going to ban me from buying anymore bedding I love quilts and patchwork and granny blankets of which I have many .I have just replaced my radiater in the bedroom with an original fire and it looks so much better .My house is a 1930s house and when we moved in 3 years ago it had not been touched since 1950 so was very in keeping with what I like even down to a1950s kitchen, our garage is fitted out in the original 1930s kitchen units which I would have loved to bring back into the house .0

:rotfl: when I was little, my mother would get a shovel full of "fire" from the grate in the sitting room and bring it in to the bedroom fireplace to heat it up. Gosh, no health and safety in those days;)0 -

Very pretty! This would be great in Xmas fabric too.
Looks fairly straight forward if you visualise it as a series of flat squares and rectangles. I would cut / fold paper until I had the 3D shape & size I wanted, then lay them out flat to work out the area the be made from patchwork.
Depending on how stiff you want it to be you could help the wadding with curtain tie-back weight interlining.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I wont tell if you don't we never had the radiater turned on anyway and it looked very ugly just sat where the fire belonged we have had it swept and we could use it if we wanted we have a carbon monoxide unit in the room and would not bank it up to high must say it looks great when lit0
