:D Can I just say that I am now officially obsessed with this thread (and Im only up to page 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Keep getting sidetracked with all the fab links etc....

I might get brave and post some pics one day of my little flat which my friends all describe as "country cottagey" Ive had the curtains in my bedroom since I was 15 (am 34 now!) cause they are all yellow and flowery and gorgeous! Everyone laughs when I talk about moving or redecorating etc cause its the same style wherever I go and now I know whats its called - SHABBY CHIC!!!!! :T :T :T

See you all in about 3 weeks when I catch up :D

Hello twinny and welcome to ths thread :)

See there is a whole world of us with the same style :rotfl: :rotfl: wherever I go I decorate the same also, first thing I do is have the walls half pannelled and painted white lol.

Hope you enjoy being here as much as the rest of us do, we have a lovely little group that is growing by the day!

I love this thread I have always been a fan of this style ,my whole house consists of charity shop bargains and auctions ,I am decorating my bedroom at the moment and hubby is going to ban me from buying anymore bedding I love quilts and patchwork and granny blankets of which I have many .I have just replaced my radiater in the bedroom with an original fire and it looks so much better .My house is a 1930s house and when we moved in 3 years ago it had not been touched since 1950 so was very in keeping with what I like even down to a1950s kitchen, our garage is fitted out in the original 1930s kitchen units which I would have loved to bring back into the house .

A cautionary tale reference our beloved shabby chic enamel items..

cleaning the kitchen this morning (it does happen!) I noticed as I was washing the enamel tea/coffe/sugar canisters and utensils jugs that they have white splashmarks/spots on them where the colour/finish seems to have eroded?

I can only think that it is either the spray I use to clean the kitchen worktops (but it's just an ordinary spray, nothing harsh no bleach or anything? ) that has done this.. either that or I've been sold stuff as enamel when it's not really (EBAY hang your head in shame!) and the surface coating has been damaged somehow

The jugs were cheap, but the tea/coffee/sugar thingummyjigs were not.

I've got other enamel stuff, which hasn't been affected, though I've not treated them any differently

I have to say I'm gutted, I love enamel, because it's pretty and (I hoped) durable.. and I buy my stuff to last and try to take proper care of it...

We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

I can't understand why this should happen,I have enamel jugs that have been standing outside on my patio for years in all weathers and have had stuff splashed all over them (patio cleaner, garden chemicals ect)and they have never budged.I would get in touch with who you bought them from and complain.

    I can't understand it either.

The jugs, well the people I bought them from have closed up shop.. and the tea/coffee etc was so long ago I don't remember who it was.

I have an old Flour bin that I use as a bread bin, I bought it at a car boot years ago, it's old and rusty and lovely, and I know what you mean, thee is no way it would go like that no matter what you did to it, it would just get more rusty and lovely.. this is different though, very weird and upsetting!.

It gets worse the further north you go. I did a search yesterday for stuff close to me - I had to go to 100 miles before any type of furniture appeared - even then it was just a sofa and couple of other bits. My parents and dd live in the Midlands and southern england so when I'm next off to visit I'm going to have a wee lookie on e-bay before I go and see if I can pick up a bargain then - I just won't plan on taking any luggage!!!

You could probably adapt this pattern http://foofanagle.wordpress.com/2007/06/26/bagsket-tutorial/ by making the base a rectangle, and using wadding inbetween the layers rather than stiffner, including the handles. Make up both sides in patchwork first, add a pocket to the inside and then sew together. Leave out the drawstring top, and place the handles where you want them.

If you make one we need pictures please! ;)

Looking at her shop I would immagine that she has probably designed this herself, it is beautiful.

I have the bagsket link for when I get some time..........
