I'm just wondering if Triage999 (i think it was) has done anything with those tea chests yet? I can't remember which page they were on and TBH I'm a little too tipsy to go looking (!) but have been waiting to see what you did with them.
Unfortunately they are still in the queueI will try and get round to them in the next week or so as I have some time off :T

I've been lurking on this thread for ages and you've all inspired me so much that I've bought a pine dressing table off ebay!!!!!!!!!!
I really want to 'shabby chicify' it but am worried that when I paint it it may look 'cheap' ie with obvious paint strokes. So I thought I'd distress it- is that easy enough?
I thought posting a photo was easy enough but looks like I'll have to search the threads for instructions
Thank you

When I was a little girl I used to visit my 3 Great Aunties house.
On a Saturday afternoon, they would serve a lovely afternoon tea - cakes on cake stands, salad, sandwiches, pot of tea, etc.
My highlight of this was the crockery. They had a wonderful pastel set with a side plate, dinner plate, bowl, cup and saucer in each of the colours - pink, blue, green and yellow - they were white on the outside of the cups and bowls but the inside were coloured. They always ensured I got the pink set!
Oh how I loved that crockery. :A
I've been looking for years for something similar but the closest I have come are these on Ebay, but they aren't the colours I want as I want blue included, and they have dinner plates but not side plates.

Then today I found these:

I was so happy as it is just what I wanted. :j Okay it has mugs not cups but that is fine. The only problem is, they don't appear to do dinner plate size.I am so disappointed. Can anyone help please?
Thanks and sorry for the long post.
I noticed that the set on the 2nd link was made by Typhoon so I have found their site for you as maybe if you contact them they could let you know stockists for the dinner plates?

There are some plates etc in their clearance but I think they are too small for dinner plates (haven't got my ruler handy!)0 -

I think that kitchen is very pretty and very individual but would benefit from having a few less items. (Bit of a joke me saying that! If you could only see my kitchen!)
I think the chest of drawers is a very clever idea. The website is extremely interesting and i will browse through for ideas. Thanks for the link.“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0 -

yes, absolutely love it! brilliant idea to use a small chest as an island. My daughter would hate it - she has a thing about clear worktops but I'm just the opposite.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I don't like clear worktops, but I do like everything to have a definite place, because I know what I'm doing then and tidying up is easier.. I coiuld never do the minimal thing, but I don't think I could go totally full of stuff either, although when I see homes like that I totally drool over them.. but something stops me, perhaps I'm just not organised enough to manage a look like that? I don't know.M.A.C.A.W member number 39

danceinthedark - if it were me I'd leave the pine cupboard as it is. The wood makes the lighter colours inside and all your bits and pieces stand out really well. Thats just my opinion of course.
skinnygirlnot - I think everyone has their own way of 'distressing' something but I normally put the paint on and either 'dry brush' a darker or lighter paint on (whichever colour is the finishing colour) and that will give a sort of 'grainy' effect. Another way is to rub back the paint here and there with either wire wool or light sandpaper then finish it off with a coat of briwax polish done in a sort of 'patchy' fashion.
At last I think I might finish the little cupboard I've been meaning to get done for a while now. Two coats of paint and I think it still needs another - it was an old german bedside cupboard I gave to my son, he painted it matt black then moved house and didn't want it anymore so we've got it back. Paint won't strip off very well so its a job to cover but its getting there. Then I'm putting some skeleton leaves on the door panel in random fashion and giving it a quick varnish over once I've rubbed it back here and there to give it the 'distress look' I'm after.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !
