P.S. Totnes sounds great too :T
Totnes is the best place I have ever found for Shabby Style and has to be one of my favourite places on the planet (think Camden Town Cath Kidston Style), the only normal highstreet shops are Woolies, WH Smith and Peacocks but they are all on a small scale and are completely aimed at Totnes (they sell loads of new age items etc) and built into really old style buildings!
All the other shops sell various handmade wares, any type of shabby chic item from fabrics to huge painted distressed french style buffet cabinets, vintage clothing/furniture and fabrics Cath Kidston, Green Gate, Gisella Graham, Emma Bridgewater etc etc etc............
If you can't get the shabby thing you want in Totnes, you won't get it!!! And the market is fabulous, it is a mix of Organic foods from veg and olives to fish and bread, Bric a brac stalls, Shabby Chic/Vintage stalls and fabrics galore, NO second hand mobile, fat dripping burger, cheap underwear and nylon clothing stalls in sight :T :T0 -

Feeling really fed up. Got my dresser on Thursday evening and was too tired last night to start on it. So early this morning I washed the bottom half with sugar soap, sanded it and primed it....so far so good. Then went to B & Q and bought some Craig and Rose 1829 acrylic eggshell paint in a lovely green colour. Have now painted it and the paint is awful. Very thin and in places seems to bubble and also remove some of the primer. How I wish I'd got a normal satin paint now. Not sure what to do......
And here is the result which isnt perfect but alot better. It needs a little attention here and there but is perfect for my bits and bobs. I was exhausted by the end but dont give up. I was ready to chuck my dresser out but am glad i kept on.Good luck with your `project`. Let us know how you get on.

Vivw, I feel your pain:( . I've been painting my dresser with Craig and Rose (pale mortlake cream, colour shamelessly stolen from NE girls gorgeous dresser:D). Although I haven't had the same problem as you have with your paint (and I agree with everyone else you should take it back) I am finding that if i try to lightly sand it between coats it goes back to bare wood and I have done a lot of coats!! It does tend to get air bubbles in it.
Just out of interest, did you use a water based primer as well - I did notice on the C & R tin it says water based paints should not be used with an oil based primer but I don't think it could cause the problems you've been havingAnyway I hope you can get it sorted 'cause it will be worth it in the end.
Could I give a protective coat of wax to mine when it's finished, and could anybody tell me what type of wax to use please.AMAZON SELLERS CLUB MEMBER 0082 :hello:0 -
I had a problem like that last week. I ended up re-sanding and priming, and painting with different paint. Also, My husband bought a top part of a pine dresser, so i used that to go with the botched up sideboard. Heres what it looked like last week:eek:

I'm not sure whether or not to paint the bottom cupboard on the outside yet....possibly change the handles too?
what do you think?
DanceintheDark, I really like this cupboard. I have got no 'vision' at all but hopefully someone will be along soon with some good ideas. Have fun:DAMAZON SELLERS CLUB MEMBER 0082 :hello:0 -
I'm just wondering if Triage999 (i think it was) has done anything with those tea chests yet? I can't remember which page they were on and TBH I'm a little too tipsy to go looking (!) but have been waiting to see what you did with them.£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0

Clutterfree..... I think that the teaset you are talking about it by Colclough (or it might be called Colcough Bone China)..... I found some on ebay... same seller is selling in all colours:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Colcough-cup-saucers-sandwich-plate_W0QQitemZ150227542873QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item1502275428730

Hi
I've been lurking on this thread for ages and you've all inspired me so much that I've bought a pine dressing table off ebay!!!!!!!!!!
I really want to 'shabby chicify' it but am worried that when I paint it it may look 'cheap' ie with obvious paint strokes. So I thought I'd distress it- is that easy enough?
I thought posting a photo was easy enough but looks like I'll have to search the threads for instructions
Thank you0
