Mine exploded too :rolleyes:Yes one of mine exploded in the oven, but I don't think I had enough liquid in and I had the oven very hot I recall, I was not an experienced cook in those days. You have to be careful putting them onto a cold surface I think as well I used to lift mine out onto the hob top to cool a little, I seem to recall a wire rack you could put them on as well, I had cork mats for my dining table.
Shepherds pie all over the oven....My mum had used it for about 30years, gave it me and that happened:eek:
I still like the stuff though and use another pyrex dish since with no problems.
I love the photos of all those different dishes, a very useful collection0 -
Thank you for the lovely welcome maypole & a Happy Easter to you all too

Danceinthedark (& everyone else with exploding dishes!) oh no I bet it made a right mess! I have never had one explode (yet!) I have pyrex dishes that I do use, just not the older ones
Thanks to everyone who's had a look at my flickr, I can't believe how many views its had this morning already!

Yes, my mother had a pyrex dish explode too. What finally put me off it for good was when I tapped the spoon on the side to clean it and bits of the pyrex chipped off went into my casserole - thank goodness I noticed it  casserole and pyrex dish went into the bin. I try not to do the tapping bit now, but I think pyrex chips and flakes so much more easily than china.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Exploding Pyrex:eek: girls, girls, you really have to treat them with respect. I have used mine regularly for 36 1/2 years and no trouble;)
Same here,I had loads of Pyrex so much in fact I gave most of it away.Back in the 70s when I first married I was asked to be a home tester and every week they would deliver some set or other to trial.I think I must have had pretty much every bit of pyrex ware going.I still use some of the original stuff and it's not go a mark on it.
I did have one dish explode but not under normal use,I had a very small kitchen at the time and had put a casserole dish on the hob of my electric cooker whilst I chopped the ingredients to put in it.My two year old daughter came along saw the dish and put the ring on the cooker on,I heard a crack and ducked just in time grabbing my daughter onto the ground for this dish to go bang and explode everywhere. To this day I don't know how we were not hurt.I was very shocked she just giggled and thought mummy had gone mad.0 -

Help please!
When I was a little girl I used to visit my 3 Great Aunties house.
On a Saturday afternoon, they would serve a lovely afternoon tea - cakes on cake stands, salad, sandwiches, pot of tea, etc.
My highlight of this was the crockery.
They had a wonderful pastel set with a side plate, dinner plate, bowl, cup and saucer in each of the colours - pink, blue, green and yellow - they were white on the outside of the cups and bowls but the inside were coloured. They always ensured I got the pink set!
Oh how I loved that crockery. :A
I've been looking for years for something similar but the closest I have come are these on Ebay, but they aren't the colours I want as I want blue included, and they have dinner plates but not side plates.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=380006601733&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=025
Then today I found these:

I was so happy as it is just what I wanted. :j Okay it has mugs not cups but that is fine. The only problem is, they don't appear to do dinner plate size.
I am so disappointed. Can anyone help please?
Thanks and sorry for the long post.
