There are quite a few people selling enamel boxes similar to the housekeepers boxes (but with phrases like *bits n bobs* written on them instead) for very reasonable amounts on Ebay..I'm sure I saw some for 4.99 or so.

I buy cream "discloth cotton" 99p a ball. Yes they do work :j There's loads of free patterns if you google.
