The Briarwood casserole dishes were only made for a short time too. The pyrex factory in Sunderland closed last year & pyrex is becoming more collectable. LOL I'm afraid to use mine in case they explode! I am looking for a nice tall shelving unit (with glass doors) to paint to keep it all in as I don't have room for a dresser :(
Do they really explode?I thought that was an urban myth.I use mine all the time and haven't had one explode yet.Hope they never do as I love them.I decided ages ago only to collect things that I can use.It seems such a waste of money to have them just sat there to look at.Even though they are very pretty!
  • I have some of the red rose pyrex. The rose has bubbled on the biggest bowl as I think it got dishwashered and perhaps the salt got to it.Now here's a question for you..... Is it just me or can you no longer search by distances on ebay? I can put in the distances I want in "advanced search" but when it shows the results it's no longer telling me down the right hand side how far anything is away??? Could someone try it for me as it now means contacting sellers individually otherwise.

Yes one of mine exploded in the oven, but I don't think I had enough liquid in and I had the oven very hot I recall, I was not an experienced cook in those days. You have to be careful putting them onto a cold surface I think as well I used to lift mine out onto the hob top to cool a little, I seem to recall a wire rack you could put them on as well, I had cork mats for my dining table.

There are quite a few people selling enamel boxes similar to the housekeepers boxes (but with phrases like *bits n bobs* written on them instead) for very reasonable amounts on Ebay..I'm sure I saw some for 4.99 or so.

I've just discovered this thread, so excited! It's going to take me a while to read it all from the beginning but wondered if anyone collects vintage Pyrex? I have just started photographing my collection to put on Flickr & here is what I have so far if anyone might be interested...

I am so looking forward to reading about all your projects over Easter :)

Welcome to this lovely lovely thread.

I don't collect Pyrex but I still have some and still use, from when I was married in 1971:eek: I do pick up bits of vintage crockery and jugs and things and my dresser is full of stuff from junk type shops.

Exploding Pyrex:eek: girls, girls, you really have to treat them with respect. I have used mine regularly for 36 1/2 years and no trouble;)
