  • i am sat here in my little room ( when we're feeling posh we call it the morning room!!) and thinking of how we can decorate it..

i was thinking buyin F&B paint to make it feel more authentic but it is a walk through room and im thinking perhaps it wont be such a good idea to use this paint if it attracts grease, scuff marks etc,
am thinking of doing a very pale vintage blue and perhaps cream... it is a dark room anyways and im thinking even if i try and put a brighter colour up nothing is going to to take away the fact its a dark room..

i want to put line one of the walls with bookshelves like these

    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20033863

and put in one of the mini electric stoves that you can buy everywere now.. make it have a focal point..as at the minute it is just dominated by our dark wood desk and computer and then mix matched furniture..
im also after a red stripey armchair ( just have a feeling that red will look lovely!) and then im going to paint my mirror either the blue or the cream to go above the stove.. ( need to stick a shelf up to act as a mantle piece i think!)
and then on the other side of the room im going to paint my old beauru ( aagh cant spell it !!) an old cream colour to house my computer
and then finish off with lace panels on the window

    its only a small room 10 by 8'5 ...
what do you think.. do you think this sounds like a plan!!! ??
and do any of you have piccies of your little snug type rooms or have blogs i could look at which may have ideas !!!!
I love the idea of a wall of bookcases. You might not need the stove you could make it more of a reading room amd really go with the book theme.I bet you could make it really cosy!

There's such a lot of lovely information on this thread - just wanted to say thank you.:j I've read thru but haven't contributed, as my home is cluttered and very un-shabby chic, but I'm trying!
One of the many things that really inspired me was a post with a link to a pic of a wall decorated with a range of wallpapers - patchwork effect. Sorry, I cannot remember who posted this, but big thanks. DD loves this, and we are in the process of decorating her room, so it is acheivable but the only way I can think of to do this cheaply is to get hold of a wallpaper sample book. I cannot find any sales of these in this country, but have found somewhere in the states, but postage is £30.00. Then there's the cost of the book. So pretty steep. Can anyone suggest a cheaper option, or a supplier/source over here? Thanks.
ps. I had lusted after Glad's microwave, as it would really help to pull my kitchen together, and went to order this morning via quidco, but it's no longer on the John Lewis website. Gutted. DH had agreed as we haven't ever bought a microwave (though this was a funny conversation: me describing how lush it was, DH's first question? - 'What's the power?'! Me: "I don't care!". :rotfl:We have an inherited model which must be 15 years old at least, and is very poor in terms of performance (hence it is little used). I never thought I would covet a microwave!
We did this in my daughters bedroom and we actually just went to a big DIY shop and took lots of free samples. They always have rolls open and we just took half a metre of everyone we liked. We had enough to cover the wall we wanted too!We added a few bits of vintage wallpaper that I picked up very cheaply in charity shops but apart from that it cost nothing!!!
  • Holy cow.... I just went to view my blog stats which are normally about 30 people a day and noticed 150 coming from here.... nearly fell off my chair! Thanks for my mention Vintage Pleasure whoever you are!! Given me a bit of inspiration to do a bit more work around the house now if only to blog a bit more.... my mojo was waning!Great thread people...

I can relate to this:D I have 4 sons, so have lived my life in a very masculine household. DS3 and DS4 are both moving out for the last time ( what's that saying about pennies? Yep they keep coming back!!) during this month;) I shall miss them, but some femininity is about to come to my house:D
