The dresser looks lovely, was it easy to get a nice finish? it looks lovely and smooth.

I have just suggested to my husband that we paint our kitchen cupboards and I nearly fell over when he agreed:eek: . I think it is just because we will be re doing the kitchen in the future and so he won't have to live with them too long. He doesn't like to see painted wood, but he does like stain and varnish :o I think it looks like fake colour wood when you do that.

it was really easy to get a smooth finish - the paint was lovely to work with and hardly left any paint marks at all. the marks that were made were easily filled in with the next layer :)

i want to put line one of the walls with bookshelves like these

    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20033863

and put in one of the mini electric stoves that you can buy everywere now.. make it have a focal point..as at the minute it is just dominated by our dark wood desk and computer and then mix matched furniture..

We have this bookcase, and the shorter one, They are really good, sturdy and have a bit cut out at the back so it fits flat against the wall over the skirting board. And to make it even better we found it in the clearence section as an ex display when we went to fetch it, so was half price and didnt have to built it!

In places like B&Q they usually have rolls of wall paper that aren't sealed that you are allowed to tear off a sample from (for free). If you take a bit from various rolls than you could get enough to do a patch work wall. When we decorated our living room we took so much wallpaper from these rolls as we couldnt decide.

Also you could ask at decorating shops if they have any old sample books that you could have.

Thanks for this. I'll pop in and look at B&Q. It's not a big wall, so maybe we could get a few pieces this way. Not sure I'd feel comfortable taking too much.
I don't know of any decorating shops near me - but will take a look in the directory. Fingers crossed.
    Thanks all for your help.

as i have mentioned in a previous post.... your can also get the sample wall paper books for free once the new lines/papers are in store... some of them also have samples of matching fabric

Sorry - I must have missed your previous post about this. Many thanks for mentioning it - I'll try and find a local shop and ask about it.

I'm Kittythimble (not about facepainting though.... that's on another blog which has not been updated for sometime!)

Just been looking at your blog. The watercolour that your mother did of your children is beautiful. What a talent.

At each end of my wall cupboards in the kitchen are blank bits iykwim which i am thinking of making one of them into a blackboard. Can i just use ordinary black paint or wud i have to use special blackboard type paint?
You just need to use matt black paint. Every so often you just have to recoat.
