ooh it would look lovely in a bathroom painted white with towels folded on the shelves and a bowl and pitcher on the top or pretty perfume bottles etc... :) I have 4 sons and a hubby who are all as clumsy as they come so it probably wouldnt withstand it here! :rotfl:

Thank you nomoney - I'll get a copy of House Beautiful and take a look. But I still need to think about how to get hold of enough wallpaper samples.
Any advice? Or is my best option to buy from the states? I guess it would be around £40 for the book and postage, but it seems a lot for scraps of wallpaper...

NEgirl: I am so jealous. Lucky you. And well done. I will look, but I never have much luck with things like this.

Cooltrikerchick. I was just about to put something like this dumb waiter on freecycle, but you've made me think again. It's lasted as long as it has because it belonged to my DH's granny, but I've never found it particularly special. But it's got sentimental pulls for him. I'm not very good with imagining how to do things. Thanks for making me rethink.

I think it would look lovely in the bathroom too :) you could get one of those nice jug and bowl sets to add to the top and put folded towels and suff underneath!

In places like B&Q they usually have rolls of wall paper that aren't sealed that you are allowed to tear off a sample from (for free). If you take a bit from various rolls than you could get enough to do a patch work wall. When we decorated our living room we took so much wallpaper from these rolls as we couldnt decide.

Also you could ask at decorating shops if they have any old sample books that you could have.

if it is in good original condition.... i would not re-vamp it as such.... maybe put some pretty material/t. towels etc on the shelves... as to be honest they are coming back in fashion so good original condition ones are starting to fetch good money...

but if it has seen better days like the one i picked up.. then in my opinion... its a blessing for it to be re-vamped....as its not worth that much because of the condition....

i glad you guys think the bathroom too.. as to be honest i dont think it will be able to take much weight due to it being a bit wobbley...lol..

as my cats more or less live in the bathroom...( got to keep one cat in there as she 'goes' wherever she wants)

so it will be just outside the bathroom door on the landing..thinking about it.. if they fit.. might change my bright lime green floral curtains that are on the landing...to the 1950's ones.. with the dumb waiter placed in front of the window..... nice feature on the top of the stairs....

    ( stop it.....must get kitchen sorted first... )

Oh and I had one of those dumbwaiter things as a kid, my mum used to roll it up to the side of the bed to put my tea and biscuits on in the mornings!
