There's such a lot of lovely information on this thread - just wanted to say thank you.:j I've read thru but haven't contributed, as my home is cluttered and very un-shabby chic, but I'm trying!
One of the many things that really inspired me was a post with a link to a pic of a wall decorated with a range of wallpapers - patchwork effect. Sorry, I cannot remember who posted this, but big thanks. DD loves this, and we are in the process of decorating her room, so it is acheivable but the only way I can think of to do this cheaply is to get hold of a wallpaper sample book. I cannot find any sales of these in this country, but have found somewhere in the states, but postage is £30.00. Then there's the cost of the book. So pretty steep. Can anyone suggest a cheaper option, or a supplier/source over here? Thanks.
ps. I had lusted after Glad's microwave, as it would really help to pull my kitchen together, and went to order this morning via quidco, but it's no longer on the John Lewis website. Gutted. DH had agreed as we haven't ever bought a microwave (though this was a funny conversation: me describing how lush it was, DH's first question? - 'What's the power?'! Me: "I don't care!". :rotfl:We have an inherited model which must be 15 years old at least, and is very poor in terms of performance (hence it is little used). I never thought I would covet a microwave!

In this months House Beautiful (i get it every month... have a pile going back from 2 years!) they have done this on one wall of a living room 'patchwork effect' and think they have just used samples of wallpaper all tying colour theme together...looks really nice!

    now this has potential...

its an old cafe dumb waiter work station type thing.... its only £1.70 at mo..

ok looks a bit drab, but it could be very usefull in a utility room or kitchen..and would look great when it is all painted up.. could even be used for a craft room etc..

i bought a trolley style dumb waiter yesturday... for £3. it has seen better days... its a bit wobbley and has had wood worn somewhere along the line... but for £3. it was worth the gamble in trying to re-vamp it...

its like this bit not as sturdy, and has no barley twists.. just plain..and its proper vintage, not repro

icandream - keep an eye out on second hand sites etc - i managed to pick up one of those cream 'tv' style microwaves the other day for £25!! It had only been used in a caravan and since they had bought a new caravan with integrated microwave they no longer needed it! :)

Charley - as my sis says it was from primark and theres LOADS on it. I have had enough to do 5 shelves for the unit and the fronts of 8 small drawers in my bedroom and theres still lots left! :) Its a good width too so would be ideal to do wardrobe panels or kitchen cupboards :)

ooo great stuff.. im going to primark tomorrow on the hunt for a cheapo outfit i can wear to a wedding next week >> ( 22 weeks preggers and mat clothes are so dear or boring !!) so i'll pop into the housewares part and buy some!!
anything else in primark worth getting.. in the housey bits?

Well worth a look out as they had quite a bit of 'shabby' syle stuff. I got one of the throws mentioned earlier £15 and though it isnt big enough to cover the kingsize bed it comes up to where all the pillows and cushions start so no problem there. They had oblong cushions in the same fabrics, different patterns on each side to £5 each.

Lots of spotty bathroom accessories, bathmat, shower curtain etc....... let us know what you find :)

The wrapping paper was next to the checkouts in the clothing section. In the house dept. there were some lovely throws...someone posted a pic a while back, but my sis (NEgirl) grabbed the only one left...but she was kind enought to ask an assist. if they had anymore! They had nice spotty cups, saucers etc too
