  • It has taken me all week to read this thread!!!! There were so many distractions what with all the links you lovely ladies have added.... I only stopped by for a quick pitstop and now I want to decorate the whole house!!!! And now my house is looking a tad shabby, I must do some cleaning today!

And a bone to pick with you triage.... you must be local to me coz I wanted those tea chests from freecycle! what a small world we live in! We should all get together sometime and have a shabby swap!

I feel so inspired and now I have soooooo many ideas for my kitchen! A big thank you to you all x hhhmmmmm now where do I start! Oh yes cleaning first! :rotfl:

Another Devonian :) there are a fair few of us on here, I am in Torbay!!!

I am having a bit of a mare with the tea chests, having never been to Dartmouth before I am tryiny to find a way around the ferry crossing so I do not have to go over it lol!

I have asked the lady if we can pick them up on the weekend instead of today as we will have more time!

Went to the Flea Market this morning and came away with a Wee willie Winkie style white metal candle holder and a lovely blue and white single patchwork quilt, both for £7.

I then rediscovered the library, have not been into one of those in years! it was next door so I thought I would pop in, came away with membership card andthese four books..........

The Gentle Art of Domesticity by Jane Brocket (from Yarnstorm Blog) she is very much into our way of thinking with homemaking and crafts etc!

3 x Books on creating cloth dolls and painting their faces, I fancy my hand at this craft as I love buying pretty odds and ends of jewellry and fabrics but have little to do with them, so I thought this would go hand in hand!

    Will post pics later!

By the way has anyone any ideas how to make office type filing cabinets look attractive in any way. We have 2 that we need to keep but I wish I could change their look

My sister painted hers with Hammerite paint (or it may have been a different brand but that type). You can get quite a lot of different colours now.

Stools are a great idea, but be careful of snagging clothes/tights/yourself on the metal strips and nails on the corners.
I had a couple for years (before they got too battered in various moves to be used for anything) and used them for bedside tables with a larger board on top so I couldn't knock into the edges of the chests themselves.

    thats so lucky.....:j

I'm in Ivybridge, our new library is opening in April so I hope they have a much better range of books than the small library does at the moment.

I know what you mean about Totnes aswell, its my fave place to visit. The market is fantastic on a Friday, lots of shabby chic bargains to be had! hhhmmm can feel the urge to go there on Friday, now that I'm madly planning my new kitchen :rotfl:

Also if you don't mind me asking Triage where do you go carbooting?

Viv, Laura Ashley have a lovely fabric called *heath green gingham*.. it is very pretty and fresh..it costs 13 pound a metre, which seems a lot (though it is discounted at the moment to 10:40!) but it is very practical and durable and washes brilliantly, which would mean if you could make a removable cover for your chair it would last very well and remain looking like new!

It's one of the best fabrics I have ever worked with in all honesty.

Thanks for that. I was wondering about Laura Ashley......I'll look in the shop on Sat
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Here in suffolk, I log onto the county library web site and reserve any book they hold in suffolk and it gets delivered to the library I use in Felixstowe....then when its in I go and collect it....

And as for the Cath Kidston book, Skint_spice got one too the other day, which one is it?? I did have a look yesterday but did not find any :(

It was the "Cath Kidston In Print" I already have the "Vintage tips" one which I paid full price for in Borders
So when I seen this for £4.99 I was well chuffed! :D I will keep an eye out if you like, and send it on?
