Time for an update as baby is now 3 months old
doing the re-usable route is proving to be fantastic and SO EASY
I keep a stack of lovely, reliable harrington squares at my house and my dd keeps the shaped nappies at her house
It is brilliant. I was them overnight and they are dry so quickly
wow, what an easy way to save money
baby is fab and I LOVE being a grandma. I have him here almost every day and enjoy every minute0 -
I also wanted to say that anyone starting from scratch should try several different types of nappy. The top (most expensive) types were generally excellent but the one my dd settled on and which I love are called bumble by easy peasy. I think I paid about £7.80 for each nappy and I couldn`t find them for love nor money at any discount
They are SO very versatile with a poppered insert and a stay-dry layer and they can have extra stuffing for a bigger baby who wees for Britain and because the poppered insert can be taken off, they dry quickly0 -
I haven't read the entire thread so don't shoot if this is already on here.
You can often get incentives from your local council for going down the real nappy route. For example my council offer £30 back when you send in an application and receipt, or a free pack of real terry nappies. You can do this for each child too. I didn't know about it with my first child so I missed out then.
So it is worth checking with your local council as to what schemes they are running.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Hi Kittie,
Glad to hear you are having such success with the nappies - and that you are enjoying your grandson so much.
I would agree with you about the Bumbles - they really are an excellent all-rounder. Even better that you can get them fastening with either Nappi Nippas, or poppers. I love them! I still use them on my 3 1/2 year old at night time. (with 2 boosters - her bottom is massive under her pj's!!) I also love the amount of money I'm saving, not having to buy silly pull-ups with horrid pictures on them (imo, of course, don't want to offend anyone!).0 -
Ahhhh I bet she looks really really cute
and she will be totally dry quicker because she`ll still feel the sensation of being wet
well done Larissa0 -
Oh, what a great thread - dedicated to terries.
I love terries, and used them on both my boys, as recently as 5 years ago (but it wasn't in this country).
Got given a pile of terries the other day too, so just need to sort the other bits out. My little girl isn't quite 3 weeks old yet, and does 20 little poos a day, so the stash of disposables I had aren't going to last much longer.
Without flooding me, where would be the best place to get:
- Motherease wraps
- Bucket - I would like one which has a lid in the lid. Do you know what I mean by this. I know MSE says to a normal bucket & lid, but if I could get a proper bucket, I would be best pleased.
Using fleece, as a liner - is this just ordinary fleece that you could buy from a material shop, and then cut to the size of a santiary pad ?
Appreciate any advise you can give, but slowly slowly please ...0 -
I used terries on my daughter when she was a baby, i used them for about a year, found it so easy to do, and obviously the real bonus was saving money! My mum bought me a few packs of the nappys, and when my daughter was born people sent me pins, nappy liners a nappy bucket, nappy san (which i still use now to get stains out- its brilliant!) I love babies with real nappies- they look soooooo cute! Now im debt free i want to be fat free too!0

Ok guys need some help. I am due my first baby in march and after looking about and seeing the price i have decided to try re usable nappies. But, really dont know where to start. I have had a look at bambino mio, but what do i really need to get??? I have read about the nappy covers but how many and liners and oh so comfused. Do you buy a few different sizes or wait until they dont fit. Please help!!!0

hi, you should try a website like the nappy lady, or a parenting website for detailed advice:)
Also TeamLollipop have agents that will come out and show you lots of different nappies and explain the pro's and cons of each one.
Your council may also have an incentive scheme for washable nappies.
Bambino Mio are fine but shaped ones contain the poo much better. I bought the size I needed and then just bought bigger ones as my baby grew as I changed my mind about what I liked/wanted as time went on. The nicest nappies I had were MOtherease One size, and they fitted my DD until she was over 2. The MOtherease wraps were the best as well.Grocery challenge July £250
