haha i have a few idiot proof nappies (all in ones) for people who arent great with reuseables
I use a lot of prefolds as i havent got (and dont want) a dryer. Clothes airer does them grand over night or out in the sunshine
This site really needs a sticky thread for nappies, theres always chat going on about them (or perhaps i just think there is because i get excited at every thread i see  )0 -
I gave the terries and bambino mio a good drying test last night. I put them on an airer in a north facing room at about 3 pm yesterday. The terries were dry by 8 am this morning and the bambinos are almost dry now at about 3 pm. I`m thinking that the shaped ones will take ages compared to this
also the terries have a good texture. Soft enough and they feel as though they will absorb a lot. Not at all bad for airer drying. I`ll be baby caring several days a week in a few months so will be more than happy to keep the terries here if dd doesn`t want to use them but I think she will like them a lot.
I just bought some disposable liners too because breast fed poo is so messy
now I`m going to be looking into wool wraps and need to know more about longies, shorts and soakers. We never used them 35 years ago but I can see that my parents would have used them on us so they will be true old style. Do they REALLY work?0 -
kittie yeah they do take ages on an airer - i cheat and pop my on the radiator (which u really shouldnt do because of the elastics) a great style of nappy if you want the ease of a fitted but the quick drying aspect is pocket and stuffable nappies. Things like fuzzi bunz, or nature babies stuffables, these act as a wrap but you stuff them (with prefolds, terries, anything really) all in advance so when you put them on its like an all in one
fantastic! i love mine for night time!
Ive just got my first wool this week, so they are still going strongYou can get some lovely ones these days from people like flowerpot tots or second hand on places like the nappy lady or cloth nappy addicts forum. I got mine for £5 each 2nd hand on the cloth nappy addicts forum and they are lovely! They seem to work yes
Just a mater of rotating them rather than keeping them on like you would a wrap. WOuldnt work with a prefold really though due to the fact if you get poo on them you would have to wash them etc which is a lot of hassle

I think I`m getting addicted to nappies. Good job my dd has left it to me, otherwise I would be gritting my teeth and taking a back seat. I`m probably making up for when my 3 were tiny when there were only flat terries and pull on plastic pants to go over and nappy pins
I can`t help it but I did say ooh when I saw and felt the first motherease wraps to arrive. I have folded the terries now and there is a big squashy mound. LOL I like looking at these lovely white nappies and I`ve ironed the bambino mio, as the iron was already hot for something else and they`re also a lovely white pile. Brilliant for second hand. I hope everything else is as good0 -
Sorry, but slowly and using short words
, if I were to purchase the harrington terries would I need anything to go with them? Such as liners, nappinippers and wraps?
Then I would just wrap them round the baby as per diagram on that site and watch them get wet, wash, dry iron and start again?
The reason I am being so thick is that I looked into reusables months ago, gave up on the idea due to how complicated it all was and decided to use disposables. But this terry thing appeals to me, even if I don't use them religiously...
Thanks in advance...:o:wall:0 -
Agutka, if you like terries there are loads of different folds to pick from and you can find one suited to you. It is a mine field out there isnt it with nappies.
If you used terries you would need
*Terries (id sugest 20)
* Nappi nippas to hold it together or pins should you want to go down that road
*A wrap to keep any wetness in and not out onto clothes etc. (perhaps 3 or 4)
*liners, either paper or fleece to keep your babies bum feeling a little dryer and for easy disposal of poo.
and an essentials pack of nappy bucket, nappy net and wet nappy bag
and there is no need to iron any nappy lol, as nice as it is if your doing it for environmental reasons please dont go out of your way to put an iron on them, it makes no difference to their usage and i guess after a while (2.5 yrs lol) it would get a bit dull having to iron your nappies.0 -
Agutka this is what I will be doing with the terries:
the bat fold
put a thin fleece layer in the middle (keeps baby dry)
put a disposable liner on top of the fleece
put baby on and use a nippa to secure the nappy
use a motherease wrap
when baby is changed:
put a net bag in a bucket with a lid
get rid of solid and liner in the toilet
put fleece and nappy in the bucket
re-use the wrap
when the bucket is full:
wash all in the open net at 60 using half the normal non bio detergent
give an extra rinse and long spin
shake and dry on airer (or outside if possible)
No iron
You`ll be lucky to find harringtons but little ewe seems a popular make. I managed fine with 24 nappies and the washing machine will easily take 120 -
kittie, u should also be ok to wash at 40
I only do a 60 once every 2 weeks or so and id also only pop them back in for an extra rinse if they needed it, often its just fine on a standard 40 wash
terries are pretty indestructable whatever the brand if you ask me. i actually use some on my little girl that my mum used on me when i was a baby 20 odd years ago lol
if you live in a hard water area you can also use white vinegar as a softner0 -
Thank you, both of you! Now why didn't people make it this easy when I asked about nappies all those months ago?
Anyway, so I had it all almost right... except, what is a nappy net and wet nappy bag? Just a net to keep nappies together? And a plastic bag to keep wet nappies...erm...safe when out and about?
Thanks again...:wall:0 -
exactly
the net means you dont need to lift them out of your storage bucket one by one all dirty ewwww, you just lift the net and chuck it in
If your baby is only a few months old its not too late to make some major savings you know0
