I was looking through my hm scarves today and there are three that I love, lightweight and give me a nice colour around my neck. The yarn I used was noro kureyon sock yarn and it is the most lovely mix of colours. I remember it felt fairly hard, so I soaked in hair conditioner (wool is like hair) and since then they are so very soft. I have had lots of comments. It is easy also to make it more drapey and softer by stretching with steam. There are lots of easy lacey patterns for scarves, some with only the same row all the way through
I used this pattern, which I have now saved as I found two more balls of kureyonit is the very fine sock yarn, it comes in different thicknesses. Like these

I am on my next hitchiker (4th) I am keeping one of each colour and just giving duplicate colours as presents so one more to make, or maybe two0 -
Morning all,
I'm a bit late to the party with hitchhiker scarves. I bought the pattern on Saturday. I'm going to the knitting and stitching show in Harrogate at the end of this month.
what sort of yarns should I be looking out for to get for HHs?
in the meantime I'm doing a baby blanket in Debbie Bliss which is made up of motifs all worked in one, not squares. it involves charts and intarsia.
but I am loving making it.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
I did my HH in hand dyed soft merino from Etsy spirit. In deep gothic purple with silver thread along the edge. Next one is in gothic turquoise also from Etsy here:

Evening folks
Just came home from the shoppin centre where I hopefully bought the right kind of wooden beads for the eyes on my owl baby blanket... I bought beads, found that they didn't matched properly, started colouring them and ran out of colour after about 150 of them but need 200... So went into town today to get other ones, turned out that while the hole is big enough to fit a teeny crochet hook through it is too small to fit onto a stitch... (You are supposed to tread it onto a stitch to make it super secure and baby-proof) So I now have beads nr 3 and hope that they will work out!
Decided yesterday that there is no way that I finish my jumper, another sock (first one took me a week to finish) and a cowl before Christmas and the baby blanket before mid January. So I put the jumper away yesterday, swatched for the cowl (will work on it later this month when I go to Bath for a few days) and started the baby blanket.
Spontaniously took the afternoon off to go to my Mums knitting group where everyone thought that I'm insane doing a pattern like that with only 3 years of knitting experience... When I wanted to add the first bead I found that the hole in it was too small for the yarn and sat there with no knitting to do... Luckily there is a big stash of yarn for charity knitting and someone had a spare set of dpn in the right size, so I knitted 2/3 of an orange kids hat instead of making progress on my blanket...
plumduff, the christmas jumper sounds lovely! Enjoy your holidays! I'm not at all surprised that you're not going away without your knitting.
kitti, will keep that with the hair conditioner in mind in case I ever have "hard" yarn to soften up.
In case someone needs a very simple, leavy lace pattern, the one I used for the socks is very simple. It is done over a repeat of 10 stitches, rows 2, 4, 6 and 8 are all knit if done in circle or purl if worked flat
- = knit, o = yarn over, # = slip two stitches knitwise, knit one and pass slipped stitches over it.
Row 1: - o - - - # - - - o
Row 3: - - o - - # - - o -
Row 5: - - - o - # - o - -
Row 7: - - - - o # o - - -
So, will now go and get the strange orange hat done, it already got nicknamed poodle-hat since I had the yarn under the table (it is a 500 g ball...) and someone said it looked like a dog...Fashion on the Ration 2022: 5/66 coupons used: yarn for summer top 5 /
Note to self, don't buy yarn!0 -
Morning everyone,
Is everyone frantically knitting for Christmas?
I've just finished yet another baby cardigan in Debbie Bliss, this one is for a friend's cousin who've just adopted a newborn.
So it's back to the hitchhiker now before more baby stuff!Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
Morning all. My youngest daughter works in a nursery and wanted a friendly looking and safe to cuddle elf for work. So it can have some elf on the shelf fun during December. I found a pattern for a tooth pixie in a jean greenhough book I had and adapted that. Here is my result
it only took a week
