I haven't found it coarse at all, funny how we see things differently - one of my many income streams for years was knitting tartan hose and the colours match and fade in time with the kilt. I love a 4ply cardigan, it's the perfect weight for layering and the shetland 2 ply knits up with a 4 ply weight beautifully.0

It's gorgeous wool as long as you don't itch with it. It makes your hands lovely and soft as you knit, the oils come out onto your skin. I've got tons of it here but it makes me itch like hell now.0

I itch like that if any wool touches me. I have to knit with synthetics all the time. I would love to be able to wear wool and knit with wool.0

I layer it up with a thermal top underneath, and tend to crochet around the neck and sleeves of a garment with a cotton or acrylic yarn to make the edges comfy - just need to remember to hand-wash! I've almost finished my first ever crochet'd cardi - it's in stylecraft acrylic yarn as I didn't want to use anything expensive as a trial, and i'm quite happy with it. It's heavier than a knitted garment, although crochet'd with dk, but ok.
I'm sounding a little under-whelmed aren't I? My biggest issue with crochet is that it *looks* like crochet all the time. With knitting and fine yarn it looks like a fabric, iyswim0 -
I used to wear tops with a shirt type collar under woollies WCS - nothing worse than an itchy red neck lol. There must be some crochet stitch/pattern that has a dense appearance, like linen st in knitting... no?
I know how you feel though, I'm not fond of crochet either.0 -

I only popped on to look n see what you are up to and well all this talk of easy knitting jumpers. Tbh I could not find a nice easy jumper anywhere when I was out today and all my hm ones are warmer ones, like some jared flood ones, so I have gone and done it again, got myself another pattern, afterlight by amy herzog. I like her patterns and made one of hers a couple of years ago. Your fault Maryb, suddenly I could picture myself with a proper lapful of real knitting.
I finished another hitchiker and wound up 2 balls for my third. Its a brilliant easy knit. I am so blooming glad that my sore fingers have got better.0 -
Hitchhiker is a joy to knit0

too right it is and especially nice on my lovely needles. The regia creative I am using cost buttons when I bought masses from kemps, a few years ago. I wore loose bedsocks last night made from it and it is machine washable, washed hitchiker last night with eucalan and it is so soft and gorgeous this morning
I just found the price I paid. £1.20 a ball, so each hitchiker is costing £2.40. Wow, am I glad I stashed0
