Teehee, sorry Kittie
Funny thing is, the cardigan I am knitting at the moment is an Amy Herzog custom pattern (made to my own measurements and tension) and I have a credit for another jumper with her so I was going to get a plain crew neck design.
I could do the maths myself but I'm lazy. I can never get published tension no matter how much I faff around with different needles etc. So having a pattern that is specific for the tension I get with a specific wool is great. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
I tried custom fit and am not in love with the resulting sweater. Granted, it's acrylic so not that fancy, and I've lost weight since I did it, but the place it doesn't fit well is at the shoulders, it's a bit baggy in the front.
May try again (should have a free credit somewhere to use), but might just do the math, too.0 -

Try a row of crochet along the shoulders, on the inside. It will give support and if you are canny, you can take in some of the front bagginess. Maybe you have ironed it too warm as acrylic can stretch and loose its loft. Alternatively, maybe make a sewn dart in the front0 -
I've just finished my Hitchhiker scarf, it's turned out really well. Great to knit while watching TV. Thanks Mardatha for the info for the pattern. Going to start another one tonight.0

Thanks - I'll add it to my pile of other things that need tweaks.Didn't iron it at all, but it may just be the way the fabric wants to behave.

Evening everyone
Have almost finished one of the socks I'm knitting for a friend, two repeats of the pattern (8 rows each) before decreasing starts. Might finish it tonight. It is such a simple yet effective lace pattern which I think I might use to knit myself some arm warmers soon.
Srn, I'm so happy that my cats aren't really interessted in yarn, must be quite annoying when you always have to protect it. My cats only get excited when I cast on on cable needles as there are both a needle and some yarn dangling...
Speaking of needles, both my dpn and circulars are Knit Pro, I first bought the plastic ones, Trendz, because I didn't thought I would like the wooden ones but then tried them out and now have quite some of them too. I also have a set of metal circulars from another brand which I like too. The few straight needles I have are plastic ones I got from the cs when I was looking for short needles. I use them mainly for scarfs and when I do something wider I use the circulars anyway.
Funny to think that 3 years ago I had three needles (all of them bamboo until I found that most of the struggles I had with knitting came from the needles) and now I have a whole bunch of them together with rowcounter, cable needles, stitchmarkers an that jazz...
ac085 in case you haven't yet started the baby cardigan, why not try out the Kiddy Vertebrea off Ravelry? Costs a few £ but it is such a lovely pattern to work and you can use any yarn you want as it has instructions for the different sorts of yarn.
kitti, the afterlight jumper looks like such a nice staple item.
So, I will now clean my glasses and then get some proper knitting done. Besides folding laundry and passing the hover all household things for this week are done, so tomorrow will be a lazy day of knitting and reading and I hope to make progress on my jumper or start the second sock.

Note to self, don't buy yarn!0 -
I usually knit small things as they are easy to carry around, but I am branching out!
I started with a sleeveless slash neck knitted in Wendy Mode, which was good in the sense that it didn't take as long to knit as a regular sweater, but bad in the sense that knitting a summer top in a winter yarn makes for a strange garment that is tough to wear.
So now I'm tackling a proper jumper, with sleeves (!)
Of course I had to buy the yarn in an ebay auction, because I'm me, and there wasn't enough to make a full jumper...aargh.
Not only that, but the boucle wool, pretty as it was was last sold sometime in the eighties, and no official patterns existed, and when I searched Ravelry to find some garment I could knit with the tension I needed, and the the weight I had, the only pattern which fitted was.... you guessed it, that summer top.
So I set out to make the awkward sleeveless thing, again, then in the middle of a craft class leapt up and started ripping it out, because it was a terrible idea.
I did, however, have a quantity of mixed 4-ply, a previous bad buy from someone's attic, which I had rolled together to make double knitting, and then done nothing much, apart from clog up my craft cupboard.
I decided that doubled up again it'd make chunky, which would roughly match the ebay blue boucle for thickness.
Enter the yoke-u-lator. An online pattern generator which creates a yoked sweater pattern from your own measurements and whatever tension you create with a sample square knitted together from the bad buy pile.
I have now finished the main body, stripy, to even out any tension irregularities, and it fits. I'm a bit stunned.
I have the sleeves to do, which, according to the yoke-u-lator, needs an extra 1/3 again, of the weight of my body. There is enough left! (stunned again).
So I split up the remaining yarn into two so I can have matching sleeves.
If I get this done, it will be my first proper jumper.Target £80 per week groceries, household and cleaning for four adults.0 -
Now that does sound nice kkffoo I like the idea of a yoked sweater.0

Hi everyone, I have been really busy lately as I'm off on holiday on Wednesday and have been trying to get everything done before I leave.
I have finished the 3 lacey mohair scarves in different colours then knitted dgd a hat. It's a pattern from a Debbie Bliss book, a bit like a helmet with a knitted flower at the side. Dgd loves it so I've started knitting fingerless gloves with the same wool and a snowman motif. Trying to finish these by Tuesday night 😳.
Can't go on holiday without my knitting so my craft bag has wool to knit dgs (17 months old) a Xmas jumper with a reindeer head on the front. I'm killing two birds with one stone here as this will be my reindeer project for the Christmas craft challenge on one of the other threads.
If I get time I will post photos of my makes before my holiday. No wi-fi when I'm away and it's too expensive so I will have loads of catching up to for when I get back at the end of November.
Happy knitting xx
PS Hope to try a hitchhiker scarf after ChristmasDebt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

Morning knitters.
Hope everyone is well, you all certainly sounds busy.
Dd1 popped round yesterday and has been through my pattern books with me, she needs an elf for work so we've found a pattern I can adapt and enough of the right colours in my stash of wool I've promised I'll get it done for December ready for it to cause mischief a the nursery she works at.
I'm still knitting mini stocking in the meantime and need another 10 by Christmas.SPC~12 ot 124
