You need to be careful which carrier bags you choose - the ones which are biodegradable wouldn't be so useful!

    Hi Everyone:hello:

The free gift on this month's Simply Knitting magazine is a gadget for counting rows, increases and decreases and repeats all at the same time.

I am trying to kick the magazine habit but just HAD to have this one,

    Bella

I'm not sure if I have posted this already here, but I subscribed to simply knitting using the link here, 3 issues for £1 (it will show up as offer closed, but you need to copy the address and paste it for it to work, it is always like that with most magazine offers with links from MSE):

I got the project bag (it smells a lot of plastic but it is quite nice, though worth £2-3 tops), cancelled the direct debit after the first issue and sent them a letter cancelling as well, got their letter confirming this and am waiting for my last issue. All for £1 plus the cost of the stamp.

    Quick question.
I am going to teach myself to knit properly and have bought a pattern off ebay for a lovely jumper - wanted to ask - on the ebay listing it says "made with Sirdar Peru Naturals Wool.

First question do I have to use this type of wool or can I use a similar and if so which wools are similar to the Sirdar Peru Natural

many thanks for all your help

    Vicky xx

I've just had a jumper knitted for me in Sirdar Peru and it's turned out very well. I knitted half the back, but couldn't get on with the yarn at all, so passed it over to my mum - we've both been knitting for ages (collectively it must be knocking around 85 years!). Even though it is a chunky yarn, it seemed to take ages to knit up - other chunkys 'grow' much faster.

My suggestion would be to find a chunky yarn that you like and use that - if you have a yarn/knitting shop nearby. Online sellers usually have the yardage and gauge information which would enable you to make a substitution. Info for Peru here and for a possible substitution here.

    Hope that helps

Many thanks to jellybeans for the link to kemps wool shop. I posted a cheque to them on Monday and received my crochet hooks on Wednesday! Absolutely excellent service.

Hello everyone. Just found this brilliant little haven and I've spent hours reading through the 44 pages! :T

I'm in the middle of knitting an Aran jumper for a toddler and it's driving me mad. I think I've unpicked it about 12 times, but it's really interesting and satisfying, so I'll keep plugging away at it. I might even get past the first 16 rows of the pattern!

I've been looking on Ebay for wool (as you do!) and I've come across some sellers who make their own skeins from their own flocks of sheep - some are dyed and some are natural. Sometimes the seller says 'this is very oily and the label has some oil stains, but it doesn't affect the wool'.

Has anyone ever knitted with this raw stuff? What's it like?

Will I have to wear rubber gloves or what? :D

All the best and keep sharing your information and experiences - it's invaluable.

Thanks also so Jellybeans and pol for the link to kemps wool shop. I too am going to place an order in the next day or so once I have finalised which wool I am going to use.

Has anyone any advice. I have looked at the Sirday Click and Demin Chunky as an alternative to the Sirard Peru Naturals but to be honest am not keen on the colours. Would the Sirdar Hug range be suitable to use as an alternative.

http://kempswoolshop.com/wool_details.aspx?selectedItemID=554936751 this is the link to the Sirdar Hug just in case someone needs it to be able to give me any advice

Thanks to everyone for this thread it really is a minefield of usefull information
