sorry to butt in on your knitters thread but i was wondering...

are there any knitters in the london area that would be willing to teach me? i have always wanted to learn but have nobody to teach me!

    thank you

I'm not in the London area, but somebody else may be. However, if you can't find anybody, there are some how to knit videos on the internet. This is just one of many links:

    http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/cast-on

Personally I use the cable method (using two needles)for casting on, but everybody seems to have their own particular favourite - usually the one they were first taught, lol!

Good Luck - hope you do manage to find someone who would be able to sit with you as it's much easier than copying from a video.

Another Readicut catalogue came today

There are a lot of goodies in it. I'm trying to be strong - don't know how much longer I can keep it up.

For those who fancy it, I am sharing the temptation. There is a book called 'Knit a Fantasy Story'. It includes patterns, well, cut and paste...

    Knit a fantasy story book.
    98 colour illustrated book.
star.gif3 themes to choose from - Farmyard Fantasia, Enchanted Castle, Magic Forest star.gif98 pages packed with full colour illustrations and easy to follow instructions star.gifContains 100's of delightful animals, characters, buildings and landscape knitting patterns for you to knit star.gifSimple easy to follow knitting instructions to use up all your oddments of wool. star.gifYou might find our Ball Pack useful if you don't already have bags full of odds and ends!
So, if this your thing look on https://www.readicut.co.uk. I think unless you have the Spring Catalogue it is £12.99 but £4.99 if you spend so much on stuff in their catalogue (the usual yadda yadda).

Hope I have not led people into too much temptation.

    I'm trying to be strong...

After months of knitting fancy scarfs and a chunky jacket, with just a few dk father christmases I have started a little jacket in Sirdar Baby Bamboo for my 1 year old niece. My fingers are killing me from knitting with size 10 needles, I can barely hold them.........getting a little easier now i've progressed to the size 8 bit!! That'll teach me not to stick with the 'easy' stuff

It is so weird as you get used to one lot of needles. When I go from 8mm to my next project with 4mm needles it will feel like knitting with bits of wire!

It is so satisfying to get onto knitting for loved ones, making something for someone you love like your little one. For me it is so worth it and you can get really into it. I always swear over making up - hate it, but it is so good to have it finished.

I really fancy knitting with bamboo - does the yarn feel nice?

    Hi Hev

I changed to bamboo knitting needles years ago and wouldn't use anything else now. I used to find my fingers got sweaty with metal pins but they don't with the bamboo. I also find that my tension is better with the bamboo. I have a slight uneven tension so always work with one needle the correct pattern size and the other one a size thinner.

That reminds me that I have a hug collection of metal knitting needles which could either by freecycled or go to charity!

    Happy knitting.

Hi, grannybroon, I've used bamboo needles before, and I think I actually prefer the metal ones, but it's not a strong preference.

I want to try the new yarns made from bamboo. There's some tape out there made from 100% bamboo, and I just wonder what it is like to knit.

Got a free booklet with latest releases in with knitting magazine and the most expensive was £6.75 for 50g ball - that was part bamboo, part silk and part wool. I think at that price I'd want part gold leaf as well!

All these strange and wonderful yarns out there and I don't quite have the courage to go out and have a go. Perhaps when I have a few more pennies in the bank.

The bamboo yarn feels lovely, it is so soft and snuggly! I struggled to get hold of it locally, the shop in the town where I live said they sold it all off last year (trust me to be a year too late) so I ordered it online from 'woodland yarns', at the moment there is a 10% off yarn code actually on their website and free delivery over £10. I am very impressed with their service, I ordered and paid by paypal at 10am on Friday morning and it was delivered at 9am Saturday morning.......Just what you want when you want to get cracking with a new project.
I have started with the back and am just up to the armhole shaping, I cant wait to finish it for Poppy, wonder if I can have it made up for her for Easter?

The yarn I am using is 80% bamboo and 20% wool I think, it was £2.80 for 50g ball but then I got 10% off

I love that moment when you think to yourself, 'just one more row, just one more row, just see how this shaping comes out...'

If you have a regular time to watch tv then you could try watching tv & knitting at the same time, but be warned - watched a thriller with lots of action means that you knit so much faster and get so carried away that your tension goes to hell. Or it can all go horribly, horribly wrong when you miss a vital decrease. Having said that, I got three sweaters finished during 2002 World Cup.
