I don't know if any of you watched he Paul O'Grady show last night?

Save the Children are looking for people to knit little hats for newborn babies. Apparently lots of babies in Africa & Tibet suffer from hypothermia & many die because the night temperature drops very low & they lose all their body heat through their heads.

They will only take a little time & a very small amount of wool & so a really good & worthwhile way to use up odd & ends.

    There's a link on the Paul O'Grady website http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/P/paulogrady/children.html
where there is more information & instructions about how to knit them & where to send them.

I'm off work poorly for a few days so I know what I'm going to be doing!

Has anybody worked out a way of copying the label that is supposed to be pinned to the hat without printing all the instructions? I only want the label (and posssibly the hat pattern) but it's all on a pdf and I don't want to print out the whole thing, especially if I have enough yarn for more than one hat.

Printing - you could try going to print on your menu, then print just the page(s) you want. I will just be printing out pages 2 & 5. It's still a huge waste, but I can't figure out how to print it with print selection.

So far, one huge tunic finished ready to sew up, one tiny jacket for DS ready to sew up, half way up back of sweater, no idea when that will get sewn up...

I knit for therapy anyway. Thank you for putting in the links. I want to put something back and this is ideal. I missed the Paul O'Grady show. At least these little hats will get sewn up.

i hadnt looked as i have a few baby hat patterns. Has it got to be a specific type then? i just copied the address down.

i better go and have a proper read.

glad i did they dont want all white hats as that colour symbolises death in some african cultures, any pattern can be used as long as its for a small hat as lots of the babies are prem.

i have a prem baby hat pattern that a charity printed years ago in a magazine. i knitted a few 'little' layette sets for the local hospital but they said they ha to stop accepting them as they werent allowed to provide clothes for babes anymore because of risk of infection.

i would think as long as we provide the details they ask for we wouldnt actually have to print off the whole form, i'll knit what i can and say it is re the paul o'grady appeal for baby hats

 I could really kick myself right now....

i started to knit a lovely cardi for my god daughter a couple of weeks ago, but had left it has i also had 21st birthday card/cake/present, nappy cake/card, to sort out so thought it would be ok....but yesterday i picked it up to start again and just couldnt get the hang of the shaping part of the pattern, i must of read it over n over trying to make sense...in the end i pulled the whole thing down in my temper all 110 rows!!! now i'm so annoyed at myself....thing is i'm sure i could of worked it out of even asked one of you on here how to do it, it's such a nice cardi, the back and front are knitted all in one you have to divide for the fronts....it was one of the free downloads from here....

Has any1 esle done the same or did my temper get the better of me???

What wool are you likely to use? Should I try DK or Aran? (being lazy - no scraps around and not sure what to start looking for. Hate tension squares with a passion).

Pink1970 - I have thrown out an adult size, fuller figure size, sweater which had a front, back and one and one half sleeves because I was sick to death of the damn thing! I knit for therapy anyway.

I haven't knitted for years, and this thread has got me thinking about starting again but this is definitely a kick-starter for me - I'm going to pick up a couple of balls of brightly coloured wool today and root out my old needles - I guess Dk would be fine?
