Mary Hinge - Would love to do a group but I work full time all day and then hubbie is on permanent night shift Mon-Fri so have to be at home for my kiddiewinkles. So any evening class out for me unfortunately. Maybe will take another wee evening to myself and try a different online tutorial.
Knit squares are never quite the same as crochet.

Hi Mary, it's always my shoulders and neck that get sore when I've done too much knitting. Like you I just slow down for a couple of days. Since retiring I am knitting a lot more so have to be careful and pace myself xxDebt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

Plumduff - its the joint between my thumb and hand that I suffer with if I knit too much
and I am nowhere near retirement age !!
I am an all or nothing kind of knitter - when I get a project in my head i go at it like the hammers - patience is not my strong point - hence I rarely use 4 ply!0 -
Would love ideas for using up wool stash - 3 full carrier bag fulls!! - If only I could crochet I would love to be doing granny squares for blankets but alas its hats for shoeboxes. What do the rest of you do ?
Hi BOBS, for the past month I have been knitting things to use up small amounts of wool before I start on the bigger packs. So far I have knitted fingerless gloves in DK that took about 45g. A chunky lacy/rib scarf that is 70" long and took about 250g of chunky. A shorter lace Aran scarf that took 100g Aran. A chunky shawl collar jumper for a 1-2 year old that took 150g. Baby cardigans will take under 100g DK. I am putting these things by for presents, so have a look at your stash and see what quantities you have and that will help you decide how to use your wool. Hope this helps.
Today I finished the long scarf to put by for a Xmas present for dil. It ended up being 70" long excluding fringe. The lace pattern was one I got from Ravelry, it is only 4 rows and really easy. I have copied it into my knitting jotter as I will definitely use it again. It would be nice in a finer wool as well as the chunky one just completed.
I only have one thing to knit from the list I posted about a month ago.

A few years ago I had to stop knitting for a few months as my shoulder was so bad. I had Physio and bought bamboo knitting needles when I restarted knitting. I don't know why but these really helped, they are warmer to the touch and slightly pliable. A friend was having problems knitting and she bought a full sent of bamboo needles from e*ay for only £8 inc postage. I've had my mines a few years and couldn't go back to the metal ones.
I never ever knit with 4 ply as I'm always in too much a hurry to get things finished :rotfl:Debt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

have never tried bamboo needles - actually thinking about it I have never bought needles !! - mine all belonged to my late Mum and were probably purchased in the 70's!!
Off for a wee ebay fix.... thanks plumduff xx0 -
Its my wrist/thumb joint too BOBS, I tried Bamboo and they didnt work for me but circulars do help alot over straight needles. I think mine are sore as my blanket it getting very heavy even with the circular. It's 500gms in total when finished and I'm about 380gms in!
I did manage some knitting lastnightwhilst pairing up my yarn with patterns to have a organised idea of my yarn is for I fell at the first hurdle and got the urge to knit the first pattern I found, tbf it was perfect for some hand dyed semi-solid purple BFL I have had for a few years
so I'm half way through this (I scaled down a few needle sizes and have tweaked the pattern alittle to make it 3-6months size)

Im guessing that since I have finished Master H's hoodie and a prem cardi and made a good start at finishing the blanket I deserved to start something new :rotfl:and it is small and portable, can't knit the big blanket in the car

mrs-moneypenny wrote: »Bobs if you have baby wool it's worth asking your local maternity hospital if they need anything. Mine want hats and little knitted triangles new mums pop in their bras then put in incubator with babe to transfer mums scent to help bonding.
Or instant smoothie hats are another quick little knit to use up odds and ends.
You could knit squares to make into a blanket once you have enough.
Btw I'm left handed and you don't even want to see how I hold knitting needles, I've been told by mil I crochet the wrong way round as I do my work back to front and work the wrong way round the circles or squares, but they look fine when I'm finished so I'm happy. Don't let people put you off if you want to try something.
Our knit and knatter group make triangles too, I haven't done any in a while so thanks for reminding me Mrs MP.
I think as with most things there are more than one way to skin a cat and what ever works for you! I learnt to crochet from you-tube and use a mish-mash of techniques to suit myself!
I'm of out to the out-lawstoday so no knitting until tonight  I'm hoping to get this teeny baby cardi finished as it is beautiful. Is it wrong to ponder another baby H just to knit for it? :rotfl::rotfl:

Our local hospital will take squares for bonding but don't want triangles so it's worth checking before you start knitting.0
