  • Thanks janb5 and Mary. They're all for presents. The baby set will be kept until a new baby pressie is needed.

No luck finding bamboo needles. Might just have to buy a whole set, the local wool shop sells them for £6 for one pair. I could get a full set for just under a tenner from eBay.

I'm getting on with waistcoat for dgd and it is knitting up really quickly. I think I'm going to knit myself something next. I sorted my pattern folders this morning and gave some I would not use to CS.

    Happy knitting xx

PS Mary, you'll be so happy to get the golden yellow blanket finished

  • I got bamboo needles from aldi a few years ago they were very reasonable so worth checking there when they have wool promos on.

Finished a hat and pullover for DGS and started another hat, think that will be for the shoe box appeals.

Some 22 years ago, I bought a knitting kit from a newspaper. It was for a child's jumper, featuring Gromit knitting a rainbow striped scarf and was expensive,as it cost £20 back then.

It was so fiddly that I took a break and put away the half finished item only to later discover that I had lost the pattern.

Well I found it today, so can knit what was meant for my son,for his son and I have plenty of time as he's only three and the jumper size is for about age eight.

This is the pullover and hat I've been working on for DGS

Started another hat the same but I'll put this one aside for the shoebox appeal

  • Hi Mrs Moneypenny that jumper's lovely. I love the basket stitch. I've just finished a shawl collar jumper for dgs, but it was just stocking stitch with a garter stitch row every 8 rows. Very nice but the basket stitch is even nicer. Is it really difficult to do the photo link? Do you know where I can find instructions?

I'm home all day today ( no gallivanting like yesterday ) so should get a bit of knitting done this afternoon. I've taken to sitting down at 3.15 with a cuppa ready to watch the Chanel 5 film whilst knitting. This is the life, so glad I retired :rotfl:

    Thanks plum,
I'd put my photo on my makes page on pintrest and just clicked copy the link and pasted it to here. That's the only way I know how to do it on an iPad. Sorry I'm not very techy.

The jumper pattern was from a knitting mag I bought about 7 years ago, I last made it for my step sister baby when he was born (that's why I bought the mag) it's such an easy stitch isn't it and shawl collars are so easy to get on and off a little one.

  • Hi all. I can currently knit a basic scarf and can just about manage a basic crochet stitch (if thats what it's called?). I'd like to be able to read a pattern and actually knit & crochet nice things. Where is the best place to learn online? Or would it be easier to buy a book? maybe I could get one from a charity shop?

    Many thanks in advance
  • Hi nifty, I learned to crochet by following YouTube tutorials hth.
