Thanks Mary- that was really helpful and the side notes are good too. I found that Jeny`s surprisingly stretchy bind off was a great help and her version is the better one!0

Can anyone recommend knitting needles that don't make any noise , I have taken up knitting after a gap of about 20 years and I'm now surrounded by three males in the household who are constantly moaning about the metal needles clicking together .0

Hi, I use bamboo needles and I'm sure they are quieter than metal ones. I recently bought 3 pairs from *bay for £5 inc postage. Hope this helps.Debt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

I've just finished knitting my first ever pair of socks and am proud of them - yes they're a long way from perfect but the fact of the matter is I made them AND turned my first heel! Sorry if the picture is massive.Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0

Those look great! My first pair of socks took forever, and then I had to frog them and do another pattern as they stretched too much on first wear!0

Thank you! I didn't use ideal yarn but I just followed Liat Gat's online course where she goes through the fleegle heel with you and used worsted weight as recommended. I did enjoy doing them though and am going to have a go at them using self striping 4 ply next - 2 at a time!!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0

I haven't tried self-striping yet - can't convince myself that I'd like/wear striped socks.
2 at a time is brilliant - I think I would suffer from Second Sock Syndrome very badly otherwise.0 -
I love self patterning wool rather than self striping. I have never been able to get my head around Magic Loop but it does look sooo clever!0
