Hello All. I haven't been here in a while. :(

I was wondering if anyone here has knitted a jumper using New Lanark Mills wool? (Scotland) I have read reports that it is a bit scratchy to knit with but that it will last for ages and soften up with a wash. It seems to be a decent price at £6-7 for a 100gr for virgin wool. I got their colour card and some of the colours are beautiful but I don't know if they will bleed.

I would like to knit an Aran jumper for DH. Because it is a cable project I want to use the best quality yarn that I can afford on my limited budget. DH is a size L or XL (and long). He prefers 100% wool as he is always outdoors. Any help?

I'm currently knitting a sweater for my OH. In the main I'm using handspun lambs wool from Skye, but for the snowflake across the front I'm using Lanark wool. I'd say it's softer than my main colour, and agree the colours are lovely. So far I'm very happy with it.

I'm now going to ask a related question of this thread if I may? The sweater is this http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/pattern.php?id=5313&lang=en. I'd decided to do a Kitchener stitch for the shoulder seams but now not sure if it's a good idea. The pattern just suggests I sew. Can anyone more experienced comment?

    Thanks in advance :)

I have often used Kitchener stitch to join shoulder seams and have been very happy with the results, just be careful that the tension is neither too loose or too tight.

For a pure wool sweater I would sew the shoulder seams, to ensure the shoulder structure is well supported. Otherwise, it may begin to 'hang' quite quickly. Kitchenering is OK for lighter yarns - eg acrylic.

If the colour card has yarn strands, test the colour(s) that you like, by trapping them between a damp tea-towel and giving them a press with a warm iron. Otherwise, ring and ask for a few inches as samples.

Thank you for coming back to me. Good to know the yarn looks ok in person. :)

Has anybody found a nice free pattern for wee hats for eggs in DK?

    Found these on Ravelry :)

Or I would have thought that any of the patterns for the "Innocent hats" would fit an egg.

Thanks, that makes sense actually. So I should start casting off then :)

  • I'm currently trying my first attempt at knitting anything that is not one wool pattern. I bought the pattern online from slightly sheepish for my oh as he's a camper van nut, will hopefully make a nice Christmas gift for him if I ever finish it :o.
  • Hi

I found this thread a couple of weeks ago and I have read it up to date. I guess something happened and it just petered out. I hope it will start up again. Loved seeing all of your work.

I gave up knitting about 8 years ago, got rid of all my stash and needles except for a set my eldest son bought me to replace all the ones he bent when he was a kid playing drums. I was having problems knitting because of my arthritis.

I bought a hand knitted jumper in a CS I think it was new. I put it away to wear in the winter and forgot it. I found it in February when packing for our move in March. I got it out a couple of days after we moved here and found the sleeves were bat wings that look ridiculous on me being only 4ft 9 ins. I took the sleeves out and pulled them back. After looking at the two large balls of yarn for a couple of weeks I decided to make something for DGS1. I e-mailed my daughter and we discussed it. I did not start knitting until the end of May knitting a hoodie for him. I then went out and bought more yarn and made him another one.

Since then I have knitted a cardigan two tops and a waistcoat for myself, three scarves for Christmas presents, a hat, scarf and mittens for DGS5 and a hat for DGD8. The hats are waiting for bobbles. Most things are not sewn up yet like most of you I hate sewing up. I shall have to have a session sewing up as soon as I finish on the Christmas presents.

Hope to hear from some of you.

Hello nursemaggie, I very often just lurk here but sometimes post.
The knitters on here must be very busy just now, but I'm sure some of the regulars will pop in soon.

I like to keep an eye on who is doing what, gives me inspiration for my own projects. Enjoy your knitting time.
