Cuddles123 they are fantastic. I popped on this thread as I am considering taking up knitting again, I need a winter hobby.
Would it be possible to let me know which pattern you used?
Many thanks

Hi, I was wondering if I could pop in for a quick question?
I'm a knitting novice and have just knitted my first of a pair of wooly socks based on a pattern in a book from the library by Aneeta Patel. The socks are sort of slipper socks, with a one piece top of foot/ankle part and a separately knitted sole. The sock came out fine bar one small issue, which I'd like to resolve before I finish the second.
The ankle part is a 1x1 rib stitch, knitted flat and then sewn up using a mattress stitch. The cast off is the very top edge of the cuff. The problem is that this edge isn't as stretchy as the rest of the rib making the sock difficult to get off and on. OH can just about get it on, but it is a squeeze. The rest of the cuff is as stretchy as I'd expect. I'm wondering if there is a common mistake in casting off I have made? It says to cast off in the pattern, which is what I've done (I think!). I'm just about at the same point on the second sock and would like to get this one right
I'm not sure if it matters, but I'm using a super chunky 100% wool on 10mm needles.0 -
You could try casting off again more loosely or even use a larger needle.

Thanks Bella. I'll try that on this sock. It will have to be more loosely as these are my biggest needles, but I can certainly manage that!0

I use the method shown here for sweater necks and cuffs and it gives a really lovely finish.
