I am looking for a cheap stand to go by my chair to hold knitting book or patterns as I need to keep looking at the charts. Has anyone any ideas where I could find a free standing stand.
I have thought about a music stand do you think this would work?
Many thanks
I personally would pick music stand over cookbook unless you have a table to put the book Stand on. With a music stand, it's free standing, and you can make it what ever height you want. I think it's a great idea, never thought of using my music stand like that!0 -
Music stand it is then. The reason I looked at them is that you can buy them for about 6 pounds. If I wanted a proper book holder it was over 200 pounds (they are made for people who can't hold books etc)
Also the music stand is not cumbersome and will fit nicely by the side of my chair as I do not have a lot of floor space.0 -
Another option is a small artist's easel, which is also free-standing, folds up and may be cheaper? The kind used for tramping out in the countryside, to find the perfect landscape!Needs, NOT wants!

I am knitting a t shirt style top using one strand of fun fur and one strand of dk. because of this am simply do a knit row throughout. the pattern is for 3/4 length sleeve but I want short. so I have got to the part of sleeve where it says 'continue until piece measures 8in' looking down pattern I need to work 42 rows doing inc and dec to shape raglan I think it will be long enough and so started doing these rows straight away. that I don't know how much of it is necessary because of me doing just knit rows. last row I worked was on wrong side leaving me with 16 sts. I don't know how much of this next bit of the pattern I need to do as I am not knitting using the sts they have the pattern in and one of the sts is k1b (knit 1 in row below) I don't know if this will make an extra st or not. the rest of the pattern reads
shape top of sleeve
row 1; (RS of knitting) P1 (k1b,p1)2 times,K1,TURN;leave rem sts unworked.
row 2;bind off 2sts,k1b,p2
row 3;p1,k1b,p1,k1b, (you will now be at the point of the bound-off sts), TURN; leave rem sts unworked.
row 4;bind off 2sts,p1
row 5;p1,k1 pick up and k4 sts across the bound off sts, *p1,k1;rep from *to last 2 sts p2
work row 6 then sl sts onto a holder
bearing in mind I am just doing knit rows which of the rows do I work from above, and how? thanks0 -
I am knitting a baby jumper with different colour rabbits on it, but despite 'twisting' the yarn there seems to be little holes appearing either sides of the rabbits.

needed some help with a question with understanding a pattern but unfortunately no one has answered and I am back again now with another question. I have bought some lovely wool but I don't know how to knit with it. I will describe it best I can, it has 3 little powder fluff tufts of wool/small cotton wool puffs in 3 different colours that are all held together with a very very fine length of wool that when knitted looks as though it is not thick enough to hold it together, what do I do?
the wool looks a bit like this

sorry homealone i couldnt help with your first question as i didnt really understand how to do it from reading what you'd put. hopefully someone else will be able to help once they pop into the thread.
re the wool with the bobbles or slbs in it i think you just knit it as normal wool and it comes up as quite a lacy open knit with the bobbles or slubs in at random. i would try knitting a tension square and see what you think of it. do the ball bands tell you what needle thickness to use? and is the pattern one for that yarn or are you improvising.
dbrookf are you twisting your yarns the same way each time? i tend to loop them over each other then try and carry it behind the next stitch i knit so the trailing thread is trapped under my last stitch if that makes sense.SPC~12 ot 124

This looks like a pom-pom type yarn.
These yarns are usually knitted using only the thin lengths for the stitches. Howevever, if your yarn has quite small slubs, it may just be worked as normal boucle type yarn.
You could try googling < How to knit ICE (name of the yarn) >
Here is a video that I used for large slub yarn.Needs, NOT wants!
