Hi all, this seems like the best place to post my query looking for advice. For the past month or so I have wanted to start to learn knitting. But I literally know nothing. I have memories of both my nan and my mum knitting many years ago now, and who both aren't around anymore to ask, but I am sure I gave it a try.

Can anyone advise on where to start. I will do some searching for a video as I am sure I also read about a lady who has done some online training videos having learned from online as well.

I look forward to giving it a try soon.

Hobbycraft stores are doing "starter knitting/crochet" sessions look for the Store Events thing on your local hobbycraft site :)

I'd ask in your local wool shop. There are a couple of wool shops around here that run day or half day courses. They are both fairly "new" shops that sell the more unusual yarns.
There are also a couple of "Knit & Natter" sessions in local pubs so it might be worth looking for adverts in newsagents or shop windows to see if there's anything like that in your area.

If you look on Ravelry you should be able to find if there is a yarn shop or knitting group near you.

I've come across a site that has a great selection of patterns, lots of baby patterns at 85p each. They are sent to your paypal email address in PDF format. I've just bought several and plan to settle down for the next few days while the weather is rough and get some knitting done. The site is well worth a visit. Quite a few doll clothes patterns and patterns for older children and adults - I think those were under family knits. Google Cabbage Patch Treasures and it should come up. The patterns are laid out really nice. Makes for a nice browse if nothing else.

Some nice patterns there uklynn - thanks.

Does anyone have the Jean Greenhowe book Knitted Toys please?
It's out of print and a friend of mine is desperate for the Hedgehog pattern if anyone can help.

The book is for sale on Ebay, or try your local library.

There is a lovely hedgehog pattern available on Ravelry.
I agree that Ravelry is a great resource for knitting and crochet patterns.
