I don't like circs at all, only use them when I have to. I'm an oxter knitter and buy the really long needles from Shetland :)

I have 2 friends, both late 50s and 60s, who also tuck long straights in their armpits. I taught both to knit socks on DPNs and they've become addicted to knitting socks.

I think, because they have got used to the more relaxed position of DPNs, they have more easily adapted to modern circulars. Using circulars and DPNs contract fewer muscles, especially in the upper arms and shoulders, so are much more comfortable - something we don't appreciate until we change our habits. :j

I still use straights at times, because I enjoy my old faithfuls occasionally and, so far, my arthritis is usually below the waist, but I can see my new techniques and equipment enabling me to continue knitting longer than I expected.

I do socks on sets of 4 long DPNS :) I did try the shorter ones iQueen but it's like knitting with toothpicks and drove me mad!

This little guy is made from wool fabric. He is Monsieur Maurice Mouse and is waiting for his sweetheart to come along. He is sitting on a paper mache toadstool and has a 'fresh' flower:)

  • I have been knitting for a long time, but only ever knit stitch and only ever on straight needles. This last week I was taught the purl stitch and introduced to circular needles. I am now following a pattern for the first time ever and knitting a hat! So long squares and scarves!! LOL! Although I have got a blanket and a scarf on the go. Can make them prettier now with a mix of stitches.

Still got a lot to learn though, I am baffled about what to do after the first 18cms of my hat, will have to find someone to show me how to slip stitch and knit together etc.

    I adore knitting!
