  • Hello all, i'm new to this thread. Although i'm not a knitter ithought i'd give crochet a try (got my first grandchild due in June), so starting of with simple blankets, i've also done a small beanie hat...it's not too bad for a first attempt.

I have also purchased the knit and stitch magazine, as my daughter wanted me to crotchet the teddy, but i'm really struggling with it, i seem unable to follow the pattern and have restarted it umpteen times. :( time to admit defeat i think

I've ordered the first 4 online as you get some brilliant gifts when you subscribe. Will only cost £12.50 for 4 issues.
The free gifts come over 5 issues so I will probably allow the next 4 to come costing £18 then I will cancel most likely.

So for £30.50 I will get 8 issues of the magazine with all the free wool etc that you get in shop bought one but also £45 worth of freebies. Think thats pretty good deal

Well I'm very miffed now!!!! Just got email confirming my order and they have been very sneaky. The website said you got gifts over first 5 deliveries but check this out:
Your subscription starts with issue 1 and you will receive 4 issues every 4 weeks
Wherever possible, your FREE subscription gift(s) will be packaged and sent along with your copies, as follows:
    · Carry Bag in your first shipment
    · Knitting Needles in your second shipment
    · Knitting Needle Case in your third shipment
    · Crochet Case in your fourth shipment
    · Measuring Tape in your fifth

So I only get all the gifts if I end up getting 20 magazines!!!!!! Thats approx £90 I'll be spending for £45 worth of freebies. NOT FLIPPING LIKELY!!! Think I will be cancelling after first 4 issues are delivered. Hope they come soon and I dont have to wait until after they have all been out in shops (4wks)
I'm usually so careful to check small print etc but they were very misleading with this.

Well if that's the case I cancel as soon as I can. I didn't see that in the T&Cs, which admittedly, I only quickly scanned.

Gosh, that is a bit sneaky if it means you get 4 mags sent in a batch once a month and have to have several months worth to get your freebies. As it's the blanket squares that attracted me in the first place, I shall just buy some wool here and there and design my own squares. I think maybe I should have bought a couple of the 99p issues for the free yarn though:rotfl:

If it helps the square size from issue one is:

DK wool - knitted on 3.5 mm needles - Garter stitch.
    20cm by 20cm square
    44 stitches by 66 rows
    25g ball of wool

So just knit your square in 20cm squares and you'll be fine.
You can choose your own colours scheme and have a repeat square to bring it all together.

I find most of these partworks magazines amount to a lot of money for very little, so on that basis, I'm out!

I collected a knitting one a couple of years ago and it cost me (well OH, bless him) a small fortune. I finally got to the end of the collection and they sent me a letter congratulating me that they had made another batch of ones to collect and "I must" buy the extra ones otherwise my set won't be complete!

I must say, it's worthwhile to buy the first one for 99p because the needles and wool are worth more than that alone - but please don't anyone get sucked in to buying the whole collection - it will cost £££££s
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

The free needles on the first issue are 3.5mm not a UK standard size.

Red, I crochet, if the teddy is not really working for you have a googol for free amigurami patterns, this should come up with thousands of patterns for all sorts of little creatures, some patterns will be easier than others, some patterns will work better for you. Don't give up, it will all work out... hopefully!:D
