  • Just thought I'd post a link to Kemps online wool shop. They have a great range of yarns, including their clearance section. Always worth a look. They give fantastic service too. http://www.kempswoolshop.com/wool_specials.aspx

Just wondered if anyone else has bought the new Knit & Stitch magazine from Bergere de France? Issue 1 is 99p and has two balls of wool and a pair of size 3.5mm knitting needles on it. I think issue 2 will be out this week at about £2.50 and issue 3 onwards will be £4.50 which will soon mount up as the mag is weekly!
The 2 free balls with issue 1 are 25g eacH in green and a pinky red acrylic yarn. There's also a how to knit DVD included for beginners.
I'll probably buy issue 2 but unlikely to pay out £4.50 after that.
    What does everyone else think?

I find most of these partworks magazines amount to a lot of money for very little, so on that basis, I'm out!
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I've ordered the first 4 online as you get some brilliant gifts when you subscribe. Will only cost £12.50 for 4 issues.
The free gifts come over 5 issues so I will probably allow the next 4 to come costing £18 then I will cancel most likely.

So for £30.50 I will get 8 issues of the magazine with all the free wool etc that you get in shop bought one but also £45 worth of freebies. Think thats pretty good deal

I'm an experienced knitted but I've bought issue one for various reasons.

1: They have a list of all their wools with needle sizes and tension square measurements. (For future reference)

    2: Fringed scarf pattern

3: DVD passed onto a friend along with the knitting needles. (Needles too short for me)

4: Sucker for free wool. :o

I won't be buying any future issues.

The blanket is being made up of sample squares and there is only one square pattern in the first issue with one lot of wool. (Garter stitch).

If you want to make a sample blanket like in the magazine you would be better off just knitting sample squares in patterns and colours of your choice.
Plan, knit them and sew together to suit you.

No problem Sally! If you click on the pattern on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/warm-up-america-blanket-90061ad it shows that the yarn quoted is an aran weight knitted on 5.5mm needles and takes a total of 2021 metres. If you buy an aran weight yarn, check the ballband and it should tell you how many metres are in that ball. You can then calculate how many balls you should need. Don't forget that we all knit slightly differently, some tighter some looser so you might need to bear that in mind. It's also worth looking on the other 12 projects knitted in that pattern, see the link above for the pattern on Rav and the projects are on the top right hand side. Hope that helps :)

Just done the same. If it doesn't look particularly good after the first couple of issues I'll cancel the direct debit and then just pick up the 5th issue in the shop.

Hi again!! Well I've made a start....Found a lovely pattern in a friend's magazine for a hooded cable sweater that will suit the 6 year old..and bought 3 x 100g of machine washable/tubledry Acrylic yarn @ £1.89 a ball..so total cost of £5.67. Shop lady assured me the Hayfield Yarn is very popular, and washes well.
So wish me luck ladies..this is the first of many!!! Will try to post a photo IF it comes out o.k.
