Well I've found a few that I like, but I'm lost as to how much yarn I need. For instance this one:

How much yarn do I need?

Oh dear - think it depends what yarn you used?
    Was it acrylic or wool?

Hi, It was Acrylic. Am I doomed?

Possibly. Think I'd try a gentle wash and then block so that both sides are the same.

    Good Luck

Is this the equivalent of Aran yarn, does anyone know, or is it more chunky? Can you tell it's been a while since I've been yarn shopping? lol

Yes, it is aran weight and each of the Lion Brand 100g balls is 170yds/155 meters. When you look at other yarns it is the length in each ball that is important as not all aran yarns weighing 100g will be the same length. For example, Deramores have 20 different aran yarns in 100g balls. They vary in length from 132m to 235m per ball.

I always get the details for US yarns from Ravelry, here is the page for Vanna's choice:

    http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/lion-brand-vannas-choice-solids--twists

You can also look on Ravelry for your pattern and then click the 'Yarn Ideas' tab to see what other people have substituted. In this case there are only 12 projects listed on Rav and all the yarns used are american so not very helpful in this case.

    Hi all,

Just looked at the upcoming specials on Lidl website:

    http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/offerdate.htm?offerdate=37981

There are 3 yarns: a pom-pom scarf yarn, a 100% cotton yarn and a bamboo/viscose yarn. Also a variety of needles and crochet hooks. Available next Monday 21 January.

Can someone please tell me if this can be chunky or Aran yarn that is used for this throw? And if so, how many balls do I need?

    Thanks
