Read a knitting instruction for a dishcloth in a 50s magazine - now confused!

It said to wrap the cotton around the needle twice on every other row and to then miss the extra loops on the in between row to keep the same number of stitches. I really can't picture what it would look like!!

I have made a basic knit one before.

    This scarf:
    PIC_9183_medium.JPG
has stretches of looping round needle and then dropping the stitches on the next row (not exactly the same amount as yours and sometimes wrapped once, other times twice and so on) but this shows roughly what doing your pattern might achieve. Basically the wrapped bits, when they are dropped, dangle down, and force a sort of wavy pattern. You will see it if you just do it exactly as it says. Not sure how good a holey wash cloth will be, though your holes will be less than on my picture (as wrapping less).
All the best and hope this is of some help!

    That is really pretty!

I was imagining something with loops sticking out all over it!

The loopy bits should fall into place, if not gently stretch it. With the scarf the weight of it pulled it down. Might actually make another one of these scarves, for me this time! Though need to make something quickly for mothers day too!

Lovely bag Orkney, also love the scarf, I have made three in that design so far..quite effective and complicated-looking, even though it isn't really. ;)

Need to get some more knitting done, but been sewing a lot as well as some paid IT work. That's done now, so need ot get going with lots of other things now

I've never stabilised embroidery onto knitted garments, just straight onto the cardi.

Kiess The craft shop is a tea shop combo out near Mey in the middle of a field! She gets quite busy during the summer. There is a craft fair (very small) every Tues in season very near the castle. (It will be advertised locally for times)
