I do most of my socks on a circular needle now. Some people use two circulars as well. So much easier to manipulate and less like knitting with chopsticks....sorry about your socks.
ETA I did do the slipper socks on dpn's as not got a decent circular in that size (decent enough for socks)- used 5.5mm.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Thanks hun, i might try circular needles next time, i just cant work with dpn's at all i'm all fingers and thumbs at the best of times, i think i spent more time tangled up than actually knitting. at least i know my next 4 or so patterns dont ask for them its 4mm straight needles all that way0

I can't quite get to grips with the 'magic loop ' method on circular needles. I've watched several YouTube videos but I just keep making a mess of it. The winter will be over before I manage make my fingerless mitts!0

Great socks Orkney - love chunky ones.
I've never tried Magic Loop but do OK on DPNs with socks.
Next step will be gloves I think.Jack of all trades ... Master of none

Hi everybody, I have just learnt to crochet. Can any of you experienced bods advise on where is the best place to get inexpensive wool. I am making little amigurumis (animals) so need small amounts of quite a few colours.
Thanks in advance x0 -
Hiya,
Thanks for your reply. I've had a look on there, can see that there's some patterns listed on there but can't actually find the patterns to have a look at. Can anyone help?
Julia
Hi, I think you were looking for patterns using Sirdar dune?
So, go to Ravelry and click on 'yarns' along the top. Enter Sirdar dune, or whatever you have, and it will say how many projects there are. Click on that and it will take you to all the things people have knitted.
Click on any one to see the details. On the right of an individual page is a box with 'about this pattern', so then click on the name of the pattern.
It seems long-winded but after a few goes you will be whizzing about:)

Merry Christmas everybody!Could someone please explain about the magic loops please. Sounds very intriguing. Thanks
Magic loop is a method where you use a long circular needle to knit something small/narrow in the round. Basically, you have half of your stitches on the cord of the circular needle, while you knit from one needle tip to the other. This photo is one of the better ones I could find.
It's a very versatile technique and not just for socks - I use it for knitting sleeves in the round, two at a time. I've also used it for hats. Once you've got the hang of it, you'll never worry about finding a circular needle small enough to work a pattern. Nor will you ever need to switch to dpns when a project gets down to a few stitches."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!
