  • i am literally pulling my hair out and although no one can help me as such i just need a rant and i know my fellow knitters will understand. i am trying, i say the word again trying, to knit my mum a cardi/jacket in an eyelash yarn. i made her one last christmas in black which some of you may remember and i did have to re start a few times where i had dropped a stitch and in that wool had no hope of finding it. well this time the wool comes with extra long eyelash which i thought you be no different. my god how wrong was i, have dropped some stitches which has made me start again 3 times, having done at least 3 inches. i have also mistaken the eyelash bit for a stitch twice where it has got wrapped around the needle, each time having done another 2 inches and then have sat on needle and lost all stitches which was a definite first. but today, well last night i decided i would sit up in bed with all lights on (as i have fell asleep a couple of times too and dropped stitches) and was deperate for a pee. so desperate in fact that i jumped up quick causing a spasm in my back and as i landed back down on the bed, yes you guessed it i landed on my needle again and as it snapped my heart sank. a whole nights work undone. i am sat here close to tears, have tried my best to try and pick them up but i cant tell the wool from a stitch.i dont even have the heart to unpick it at the moment but am sure you will all know how i feel. i am going to look at some of your pics in the hope of them spurring me on to start again, although at this stage have no hope of finishing it in time for xmas....well thanks for the rant and hope you all have a crafty day

Oh dear, sounds like you are not having a good time. Can I make a radical suggestion ? Get a nice bag and put all of this knitting in it and keep out of the way and safe for a wee while......whatever you do DO NOT try to knit anything of it. Then find some nice soft wool (with NO, I repeat NO eyelashes or any other kind of lashes) and knit something nice and easy.......You may also find a dark room and go in and either 1. lay down and howl, 2. scream scream scream!!!!!
Hope you feel better soon x

  • Never posted on this board before, but just popping in to say if anyone has a last minute present they find they need and want to knit up something that is quick but looks good then try Tango Yarn from Woolcraft, one ball knits up a beautiful ruffle scarf. I am a bit slow so takes me three hours to knit one. I am very late with everything this year and was thinking would have to bite the bullet and buy things as presents and picked up this yarn at a wool shop I went to on Saturday as DGD12 has wanted me to knit her Bellas Mittens from Twilight, and saw this yarn which looked beautiful so bought three balls to have a go. I got the mittens knitted by Monday ( told you I am so slow these days) and had a go at one of those scarfs and was so impressed at how it looked and so knitted up the other two balls so that is 3 scarves done, so thought these would make the perfect presents for people as either an extra or full present. I went and bought another 5 balls yesterday so now have to get busy and knit them all. I honestly have no ties to the company but just thought I would mention it here as the wool shop I go to sells it at £6.95 a ball and with 3 hrs work you get a really beautiful present. The only limiting thing is the colour, they don't do it in many.http://www.flickr.com/photos/72215845@N07/6548647763/ that is one of the scarfs.

    That's brilliant moo2moo, really lovely! :)

I don't have any knitting on the go since I first started about 6 months ago, must resist the urge to start something.
  • Yesterday we went to Manchester and Hubby saw a neckwarmer in SportsDirect and stupidly I offered to make him one. :D

I used to be a prolific knitter in my youth so it doesn't phase me too much (although I used to always work from patterns.)

Looking at the shop one it looks as if it is just a ribbed tube which is doubled over and I did a quick count of the stitches although I think I may have to do a tension square.

So this morning I have been out and bought some black and some white wool and some circular needles. And herein lies my problem - i have never used circular needles.

In my old days of knitting I used to use the thumb method of casting on and use a size 8 needle and then switch to size 10s to actually do the rib (reason was so that the edge wasn't tight.). Can I cast on with some straight needles of a bigger size (I have bought a 4mm circular) and then knit onto the circular needle.

Now the stupid question - how do circular needles work - do you just keep knitting round and round until it is long enough? Do I need to mark a row end? Any handy hints greatfully accepted.

    OMG.

How long have i been here and only JUST found this thread.

    Just finished myself this: http://www.knotions.com/issues/fall_2009/patterns/smock_top/directions.aspx
Thats my xmas present to myself. Cost £6 using balls of wool from the pound shop. In real terms of money saving though, i saved a lot more as when i was knitting i wasn't smoking :D

Still got to finish DD scarf, another jumper for myself, and a couple of baby blankets for a friend.

Edit to add, yup, make a row end i just use a washer slung over the needle.
As for the cast on, i just cast straight onto the circular needles. but im sure someone else will have a lot more knowledge than I

I was scared of that pattern for ages, but once I started I loved it......such nice socks. They don't stretch much though, luckily I must have the right sized legs/feet for the pattern lol!

    Hi Folks

I bought this hat at the weekend in the Manchester Xmas market and my daughter was asked at the time if she'd like one, but said no.

Now though, she's always asking to borrow mine so I thought I'd knit another one, but can't find a suitable pattern. It's really thick chunky wool and is lined with fleece inside.

Has anyone seen a similar pattern anywhere please? I know there's loads on knitting central and ravelry, but can't quite see what I'm looking for on there?

    Thanks,

    Sal
