  • Hi Lisa

Congrats on picking up the needles again...isn't it lovely to catch up with an old 'friend' like that and discover you still have something in common.

I find kids are fascinated by the knitting - I recently had five of them (all under the age of 8) sat on a sofa having a play with some knitting I'd brought with me on a visit to their nan. They'd never seen it done before, and all - boys included - were quiet for ages while they took turns with the needles, helped each other, and watched the scarf grow.

Their mum was telling me that she'd never seen them all sat quietly, or working together and sharing before. Oooo, maybe knitting is the route to world peace!

I'm loving my Debbie Bliss SoHo - knitted a pair of fingerless gloves for when I do my typing job (perfect as my fingers get cold but I have to move them obviously) and am doing a hat plus will do a scarf. Lovely wool!

Hi to the new people here - nice to see you! If you go to Ravelry look out for me as Smiler33 - add me as a friend and I'll do the same for you :).

Everyone on here seems to knit so fast and I just plod along ... I enjoy it but it's a good job I don't have the urgency I had before to get the Christmas scarves done!!

Just finished the second sleeve of mu chunky sweater and raring to go with the neck band. Now I've just read that the pieces should be blocked before sewing up.

Does this apply to the raglans? I want to get on.

How long does the blockling take to dry anyway?

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

  • can someone explain to me how ravelry works please?

are all patterns free or do you have to pay for them?

  • When you sign up and log on there is a tab at the top - Patterns. There is a database of all the patterns - some are free, some you have to pay for, some come as a PDF download and some take you to an external site or blog. If you go to the pattern browser you can narrow it down by patterns you have to pay for etc...

    Lovely headband Skintchick, very pretty.

I finished my scarf, I ended up grafting it together and there are a few holes which I'll have to patch up but I thinks it's OK.

:jI finished my hat/neck warmer...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. the moral of this particular story is that tension squares ARE important:o. consequently, I'm not sure it can actually be worn in public, but it is keeping my neck nice and cosy while I'm sat here watching a night with the stars and pretending to understand quantum theory!
Oh well, practice makes perfect:D a very simple beanie hat next I think.

ETA: oooh, nice scarf Mikazaru, love the colour too

  • I've never done a tension square, ever. Majority of my knits are lovely and fit a treat.

Lovely owls, I love Kate Davies designs too. I'm just doing my short rows now on my manu. Not overly sure that I'm doing them correctly but am cracking on with them. I think that I'm doing what I'm supposed to but There aren't any youtube films for doing Sunday short rows so I am going blindly here. My sister will be down on Friday and will probably merrily rip back all of it

I've posted this before but as the subject of teaching children to knit and the benefits of I thought it would bear repeating in case anyone missed it. I just love the faces!

Kaz - I probably sound stupid but what's a manu?
