Started knitting my first ever pair of socks and having totally screwed them up I'll be starting all over again later on today. Why didn't someone warn me its like knitting dental floss with cocktail sticks?

Oh dear, poor you, though your description did make me smile :D

I must admit I have been knitting with dpns for year, yet only started with socks last year. Starting both from scratch is a bit scary. Don't worry, it does get better...honest! The cast on and first few rows can be a 'mare though, so you're not alone there!! Keep persevering, you'll get there eventually! :)

Still managing to get a few rows on knitting done inbetween all my sewing and crafting...I'll get there in the end!

What kind of needles are you using? I was the same with metal needles, but get on fine with bamboo :D

Just made this bath mitt with scraps of cotton. Will be gifted with homemade soap.

My Mum just rang, she has got me 12 100gm balls of chunky from the CS and a bag off odd balls of baby wool :j:j That sounds like a cardi in the offing for DD for Christmas and nice and fast to knit.

Got the latest Jean Greenhowe book with donut dolls in, it may have been out a while but I only saw it the other day. have got little ziplock bags with a list in of parts for each doll and as I knit the bits I pop them in the bag - how organised am I, after years of chucking the bits in a bag and losing half of them I decided enough was enough.

Not sure if this has been posted about before but here goes. One of the things I like currently is the chunky knitted throws and cushion covers. They retail at around £40 for throws and £10 each for cushion covers. Can you knit them cheaper? Is it possible to get big needles and good yarn for things like this? Here is a piccie of the sort of thing I mean

    Thanks for any advice

Have finally finished knitting my mums blanket, it was originally meant to be a surprise but she ended up knitting parts of it because I knit so slowly :o

I've found a pattern for a jumper I'd like to knit but it's knitted with circular needles which I've never used before and I don't understand quite a lot of the pattern, does anyone know of any simple patterns that would be good for practising with circular needles?
  • I need a new pair of slippers...my M&S made in China ones have lasted less than a year, so am going to knit my own...saw these and will have a go. http://www.patonsyarns.com/pattern.php?PID=4943&cps=21191

I splurged (or at least OH did) and got some KnitPro Symphonies. Turns out my error stemmed form the first line which said cast on 30 and then lower down knit 29. I obviously missed that bit and cast on 29 which screwed everything else up. That and not keeping count meant a whole lot of unnecessary confusion. Had another go last night without incident (unless you count not being able to unzip my crochet because I'd knitted through the unzippable bit) and managed a whopping 45mm at that rate I'll finish my first sock in about a fortnights time.
