Hi everyone, I've just spotted this thread. I've only been knitting for a year, but I really enjoy it. I'm currently struggling with the Incredible Custom-Fit Raglan. I've done all the maths and made a start yesterday. All went well untill it was time to add the stitches across the front of the neck and join the circle. It all seemed to go wrong and I ended up with the knitting inside out and upside down:eek: I'm not new to knitting in the round, but this little bit has me stuck. I ended up ripping back everything I'd done as I'm using an eyelash yarn and couldn't pick up when I got back to the right bit:mad: Has anyone done the jumper (or any other dropped neck sweater) who could give me clue?
    Thanks

I know it's early, but my MIL is visiting so I'm wrapping their presents so that she can take them back with her.

I have made her a Tawashi and a dishcloth and written this poem so that she knows what it is

I made you a Tawashi, though you may not know the name.
You use it like a scourer, but it isn’t quite the same.
Cos it won’t hurt your fingers, or scratch your precious china,
So hang it with this dishcloth and your kitchen will look finer!

I have also written a poem to go with the socks I've knit

    I know just what you’re thinking –
That this present is quite duff.
A pair of socks are boring
    And really not enough!

    But these are very special
‘Cos I knitted them for you
To warm your ankles and your toes
And they should fit well too!

Cuddles we're trying to do Christmas on a budget this year and was wondering what wool you used to make your items and how much it cost.

I have my eye on that Owls sweater too, it's beautiful. But it's not going to happen any time soon. I'm still working on my Sarah Lund The Killing sweater. I'd better hurry up as The Killing II is starting in a fortnight and I'll probably want whatever new jumper makes an appearance (I seem to be a tad obsessed)!

Mikazaru - what a beautiful blanket - well done! (Doesn't matter that your Mum helped, bet she enjoyed helping you)

She does have a new jumper in the new series, although from what I can remember it was plainer so it might be easier to knit this time :) Are you knitting her exact jumper or is it just similar?

Thanks, I don't think she minded doing the knitting it was more the "Mum I've gone wrong", "Mum, I've dropped a stitch", "Mum, can you unpick it", "Mum, I've purled not knitted" etc. etc. that was probably annoying!

I always understood that yfwd was to bring the yarn through under the needles as ceridwyn says and yo is to create an extra stitch. I'm probably wrong though :o

This looks like a stitch pattern called Diamond Mesh from the first Barbara Walker Treasury book, although I’ve not knitted it myself. I’m pushed for time at the moment, can get more information to you, but it may not be for a day or so – sorry can’t be sooner. In the meantime, I found this http://thewalkertreasury.wordpress.com/2007/06/17/diamond-mesh/, which looks like it in a very fine yarn. There’s chat about the sequencing being confusing, and the rows that cause the confusion are detailed by one poster. The row pattern repeat starts at a different point in the sequence to your pattern, but the overall stitch pattern looks the same. There is a download link from the site (to a video?) but I can’t vouch for this.
Hope what I’ve typed makes sense and hope this helps you sort it out by comparing what your pattern says with the online info. It’s a lovely sweater and worth the effort! Let me know if you need more info.
Barbara Walker books are great if anyone’s not come across them before.

Yes this pattern looks the same! Thank you for the link :)

and thank you to everyone else for the help given :T

NualaBuala We've just got into 'The Killing' and DH bought the DVD set - been watching it every night and staying up way too late. Obviously I've been knitting at the same time as watching!!

I've added you as a friend - if you want to then look for me as 'Smiler33'!!

Right, off to do some more of Mum's Christmas scarf .....

  • I've always treated yfwd and yo as basically the same. If you bring the yarn forward between the two needles, then knit (or k2tog) the next stitch, you have the take the yarn over the needle in effect giving you a yarn over.

I'm working on a pattern now which does call for you to bring the yard to the front, keep it there while the slip the next stitch, and then take it back, which gives a wrapping effect, usually on colour work.

Does anyone remember or recognise wools called 'dolce' and 'donna', please?

I have a pattern book from 1988 which I'd like to use, but I am wondering if any double knitting wool would be okay.

Not sure which you mean, but the cheapest sock yarn is some I bought at Lidl, which knits up nicely

Dishcloths are made from cotton (2 from a ball at £1.95) and Tawashis are just scraps of acrylic I have left from other things.

Just made this and will make a donation to the British Legion.
