I'm a long time lurker who started knitting in May after not doing anything for 18 years (I'm in my early 20s) I started a hat and finally finished it a couple of days ago - this is the finished product (its not been blocked though)

Lovely knitting cuddles. :T
Talked to dad today, and he wants me to knit him another pair of socks for his birthday in October. He went for his aromatherapy and massage session yesterday, and for the first time for ages his feet were warm...all because of my socks! :j He has circulation probs and gets really cold (as well as many other health issues), so really pleased I can help. My granny always knitted him his socks, but she has been gone over 20 years now, good to revive a family tradition!
Right back to my crafting...cutting out various bits before getting the machine out. The knitting will come out this evening, if I'm not ironing that is!

Thanks I unknowingly added a space in the url - I corrected it in the post above but here's another link (m7.photobucket.com/albums/SneezyCharmed/knitting/?src=www)
The Img link won't copy correctly as I'm not on a laptop (on my phone) - thanks again though.Using my phone to post - apologies in advance for any typos0 -
Hello you wonderful people, I need your help! Recently decided to get back into knitting and got a wonderful book from John Lewis for a pound and got my needles from the charity shop for 25p a pair. So far so good!
The book was Debbie Bliss, Alpaca Silk, but I have since found out this yarn has been discontinued and is now as rare as rocking horse doo doo!
Does anybody know a similar weight yarn that would work as well as I really haven't got a clue!
Thanks
:idea:0 -
Alpaca Silk was available in both DK and aran weight.
The pattern should give a recommended tension and needle size. You also need to look at the yardage. The DK had 114yds per 50g and the aran 72yds per 50g.
So to look for substitutions you need to know the tension, needle size and yardage.
All of these can be used in the yarn search on Ravelry to filter results.
If you need more help, just ask.
I just looked on Ravelry myself and it's only the DK that's discontinued - is it a DK you are looking for?0 -

Ooooh pretty gloves PepPop, they're lovely! Yes, maintining even tension can be tough at times...how you feel and where you knit can really affect your tension...honest!
Well, here's a few piccies of what I knitted over the past three weeks. I haven't blocked the scarf, so I'm not showing it, nor the woolly hat that my son nabbed...he loves it!
The ribbed part on the socks looks really tight, but it stretches very well and both my DH and dad love their new socks!! The woolly hat is mine, DS2's one has a diamond pattern...both are in North Ronaldsay wool from Orkney (the sheep live on the insalnd's shore and eat seaweed!!)...wonderful to knit with and wear!!!
So we are just back from hols, and those who check ravelry will know, I might have bought some scrummy yummy yarn (some even reduced!). Also said I wouldn't knit/crochet when there but made mum a hat and started toe-up socks (1 and a bit done- leaving them there as a holiday project), hat from memory of one I just made and socks made up (even the heel- short row variety lol!). Loving seeing all the work, very impressed and itching to knit, once I deal with post-holiday stuff!!!
