I'm a long time lurker who started knitting in May after not doing anything for 18 years (I'm in my early 20s) I started a hat and finally finished it a couple of days ago - this is the finished product (its not been blocked though)Using my phone to post - apologies in advance for any typos0

Not posted for ages. Been very busy knitting though and just started to order wool to make Xmas presents with. Currently knitting a really nice cropped, cable cardi for my niece.0

Someone has given me 2 skeins of recycled sari yarn..its beautiful, but I havent a clue what to do with it. Anyone got any ideas for a simple thing to make?? Im not a very experienced knitter. I have a selection of knitting needles from my mum, looking at the yarn I think I will need quite thick needels maybe a size 10.
Can't wait to get going with it, but I dont want to waste it by not making anything nice!0 -
Hi,
I am a lurker of a few weeks, stumbled across this thread but honestly couldnt read it all, but none the less I went home and taught myself how to knit. I mean I can do the basics, knit one pear one row kinda stuff!!!
Now I just brought a load of pink wool from ebay and was planning on making a blanket for my two year old neice, but where do I start? I only have large needles (12's I think!) and clearly would not be wide enough to make a blanket.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I would make a scarf or shawl with that yarn.
A simple pattern like Karius or Boneyard will show off a beautiful yarn and drape beautifully.
I would suggest that you join Ravelry for access to thousands of free patterns (also free to join)

You need the right size needles for the yarn that you have, so will probably need to buy some. Needles that are too large will result in a loose knit with holes that a baby can poke fingers through.
To accomodate a lot of stitches, best to use a circular needle. Not to knit in the round, but just so that the cable will hold the number of stitches you need.
As I said up there ^^^^ look on Ravelry for lots of free patterns which will tell you which needle to use.

Hi
I was wondering if anyone in here could give me a little bit of your wise advise please?
I have just finished knitting a matinee set which I'm about to make up but I'm not quite sure on the best way to attach the ribbon to the bonnet so as it doesn't fray and looks nice and neat, I admit I don't like the sewing up part much at all
I'd be really greatful for any tips , thanks0 -

Hi,
I'm a fan of the old fashioned way of attaching.
Fold the cut end under and form pleats or loops or even bows where the end is attached.
Scroll almost to the bottom here to see old fashioned baby bonnets

Come back and let us know how you do it. We love picsJack of all trades ... Master of none

Thanks - I would never have thought of using bows :T and it has been a long time since I've done anything that involves ribbon, think I'll try a couple of pleats to start with and see how it looks
It is an oldish pattern I'm using, but when I've finished I'll have ago at posting a pic
